Instead of sailing south around Africa and then east, Columbus sailed west across the Atlantic in search of an alternate trade route to Asia and its riches. Instead of arriving in Asia, he stepped onto an island in the Caribbean. The Europeans would bring many dangers with them to the new world that the natives had not yet been exposed to, such as diseases… • How come the Native Americans would catch/die from European diseases, but not the Europeans?
