The Damaged Cell’s Surgery By Sally Rountree Reasons for Surgery • There is a small worn • out section in the cell membrane There is a very worn out Mitochondria Materials Needed for Procedure • Amino Acids – from the breakdown of proteins • Fatty Acids – from the breakdown of fats • Glucose – from the breakdown of carbohydrates Getting Energy • Amino Acids, Fatty acids, and Glucose will need • • to enter the cell through the channels in the cell membrane through passive transport. The Glucose will then go to the Mitochondria to produce the high-energy molecule ATP. This will provide enough energy needed to repair the cell. The Coming of Lysosomes • The Mitochondria cannot be fixed. • So a vesicle encloses the Mitochondria and lysosomes bump into the vesicle and pour enzymes into them. • Useful amino acids and fatty acids will be returned to the cytoplasm and waste particles are removed from the cell. • The cell can make a new Mitochondria. Surgery on the Membrane • The cell membrane is made of lipids with protein channels • In the nucleus, the DNA has all of the “blue prints” for the activities of the cell • The DNA cannot get out of the Nucleus, so they make a copy of the blueprint Figuring out Ribosomes • The ribosomes make the protein, fats, and other • • materials that are needed by the blueprint Ribosomes make: mm, embbb, rraa, nne. The free ribosomes make Cccc, ovv, e, innnggg Then the Golgi Complex has to remove unneeded parts with vesicles and add needed parts to make completed molecules Solving the Ribosomes Puzzle • The Golgi Complex will take small vesicles and remove the unnecessary parts. • Out of mm, embbb, rraa, nne the Golgi removes m, bb, ra and n. • The protein formed is “membrane.” • The Golgi will also remove ccc, v, nn, gg, and add r to get “covering” from Cccc, ovv, e, innnggg. The Last Step • The completed protein and fat, membrane covering will move by the ER or along the cytoskeleton tubes and fiber. • The material then goes to the cell membrane and replaces the cell membrane. • Now the cell is ready to continue the normal functions of the cell!
