The first full core brand franchise Hilton Hotel in Britain,
Micron Communications delivers a fully converged network for
Shiva Hotels and Hospitality Management International.
L
eading Hotel operator Hospitality Management International (HMI) were successful in their bid to open a new flagship property, the prestigious Hilton Hotel at
Heathrow Airport Terminal 5.
Having teamed up many times before to provide state of the art voice and data systems to
its impressive portfolio of branded hotels in the
UK, HMI once again turned to trusted partners
and industry leaders Micron Communications.
The Hilton brand is known for exceeding customer expectations, positioning Micron as the perfect voice and data partner, due to its vast experience of designing and delivering complex
unified communication platforms to hospitality
clients over 3 decades.
Micron was asked to provide a unified voice
and data solution which would be worthy of the
prestigious Hilton Hotels brand and help the
team at the new site with its objective of providing the very best branded hotel experience anywhere in the UK.
Micron was introduced to the project at an early
stage by HMI to design, build and manage all
elements of this complex installation.
The Implementation
Integrating Hilton’s OnQ property system with
Mitel’s industry leading 3300 communication
platform, the solution sits on a multiple tiered Local Area Network ‘LAN’ constructed by Micron’s
engineers.
A state of the art IT backbone was designed to
meet the requirements of the site for administrative use, guest internet access (both wired and
wireless) and also for facilitating business and
conferencing suites. It would also interface with
IPTV, Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) systems as
well as automatic mini bars, digital signage and
audio visual technologies.
Delivering such a complex solution within budget and on time would require intricate project
management to coordinate pre configuration
as well as engineering activities during the on
site installation and the work of third party providers to ensure a fit for purpose end product.
The completed project would see the culmination of 3 years design and planning from Micron
Communications.
Up to completion of the core elements of
the project, Micron engineers returned to introduce guest handsets, in room entertainment and other peripherals to the network.
Alongside the voice Micron also designed
and installed all of the internal IT network for
the hotel team.
Benefits of using Micron Communications
At the beginning of the installation, Micron
commissioned a hosted telephony solution to
facilitate the pre opening activities. Because
of the level of interest in this landmark project, the solution needed to be scalable and
flexible in order to best represent the prestigious Hilton brand.
The solution Micron provided was cost effective and enabled large volumes of calls and
bookings to be taken on and off site during
the construction phase of the project. An inbound numbering service was used to ensure all advertised phone numbers could be
seamlessly redirected and then permanently
implanted onto the hotel network upon completion.
Micron Talk installed a 100mb leased line into
the site to provide consistent and uncompromised bandwidths for both staff and guest
purposes across voice and data networks.
This also offered the best possible safeguards
for disaster recovery planning.
The MITEL 3300 solution was engineered and
configured by a team of Micron engineers at
its head office prior to installation on site.
Once on site, the system was then connected to the category 5e network, the installation of which was also designed and implemented by Micron Communications.

From initial design, through early line provisioning and pre-opening activities to commissioning training and ongoing support, HMI
needed a partner capable of delivering this
complex project in a timely manner, and
within the confines of the budget. The critical
elements of this project would be attention
to detail, planning and timing; all of which
Micron had demonstrated it was capable of
delivering for the group. Safe in the
knowledge their voice and data infrastructure was taken care of, HMI were freed of
the crucial time needed to concentrate on
the overall construction of this prestigious
site.
Conclusion
“Micron were delighted to be chosen to help
HMI and Shiva deliver this landmark development. Using innovative design and state of
the art technology we were able to design
and deliver a fully converged network, incorporating multiple IP services from a number
of providers. This really is a fully managed
converged service that delivers a unified
voice and data solution.” said Gary Bristow,
Head of Business Development at Micron
Communications.
“For the client this means enhanced support
levels and a cost effective solution, allowing
them to concentrate on their core business
of hospitality while we manage their technology”.
