What is a Micron?
By: Mr. Mark Pettibon
Often times we get hung up in our
selling efforts as to what degree of
filtration customers require. Of course if
you asked 10 different filtration experts
you would probably get 10 different
answers.
Therefore it is very important to
understand exactly what a micron is. In
purely technical terms a micron is 1
millionth of a meter. Using US standards
that translate into .000039 inch. Thus, a
micron so small that the naked human
eye can not see particles less than 40
microns.
So as you can see a micron is a very
small particle. When we are able to filter
to .5 micron like we can with the Unigran
55 media we have the capability to
remove bacteria from a fluid stream.
Now don’t think that because we have a
media capable of removing bacteria that
it will necessarily result in a bacteria free
fluid stream as that is dependent on the
rating of the filter media
