MATH
MATH 7
This math class will provide students with an in-depth approach in learning math
concepts such as the number system, ratios, proportional relationships,
expressions, equations, geometric figures, circumference, area, volume,
statistics and probability. This class also integrates activities containing real
world applications, problem solving strategies. This class is designed for mastery
versus exposure to math concepts. Successful completion of this course will be
followed by Math 8 in 8th grade.
MATH 7/8
Students will be placed in Math 7/8 based on their sixth grade classroom
performance, math ability as determined by NWEA testing and teacher
recommendation or based on their successful completion of math 6/7. This
course will cover the number system, ratios, proportional relationships,
expressions, equations, functions, transformations, two- and three-dimensional
figures, circumference, area, volume, statistics and probability. Students who
successfully complete Math 7/8 will take Algebra 1 in the eighth grade.
English
ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS 7 (ELA)
Language Arts 7 covers reading, writing, speaking and listening skills and other
creative forms of expression.
Literature - The Elements of Literature text incorporates short stories, novels,
drama, non-fiction, poetry, myths, and legends. Additional novels are also
implemented in the class.
Writing - Students continue to develop and improve writing skills integrating the
steps of the writing process. The fundamentals of grammar, mechanics, and
usage are also a continuation in language arts. Students will work on expanding
their writing skills and ideas through a variety of projects.
Various activities throughout the year will integrate language arts skills with
science, math and geography topics

SCIENCE
SCIENCE 7
This is a general science course. Throughout the year a variety of topics will be
discussed. These topics include weather, machines, motion, forces, plants,
animals, earth’s waters, rocks/minerals, electricity, magnetism and scientific
inquiry. Students will complete labs and projects to supplement these topics.
The curriculum will realign according to the new Science standards released in
March of 2013.
SOCIAL STUDIES
GEOGRAPHY
The content will include factual information about these world regions: Western
Europe, Eastern Europe, Northern Eurasia, the Middle East and North Africa,
Africa South of the Sahara, South Asia, East Asia, and the Pacific World and
Antarctica. Also, a basic understanding of the earth and its movement will be
introduced. Globes, maps, map projection, and graphs will be used to help
relate the various topics and areas. Basic needs of the world will also be
discussed such as food, population, and energy needs.

EXPLORATORIES
PHYSICAL EDUCATION 7 (PE)
Students will be improving their skills and knowledge of many team and
individual sports along with a basic condition program. The present curriculum
includes flag football, soccer, tennis, softball, basketball, volleyball, team
handball, lacrosse, gymnastics and track. Physical conditioning includes agility,
exercises, running and strength training.
SPANISH 7
Students will utilize the Symtalk method of Levels 4 and 5 in Spanish 7. With the
first Symtalk lesson, students will be able to speak confidently in complete
sentences in Spanish. Students will master core vocabulary through the use of
symbol cards, class activities and games that foster communicative proficiency.
Spanish 7-1 is Level 4 of the Symtalk method and is for students that have not
taken Spanish or have had 1 semester of Spanish in grade 6.
Spanish 7-2 is Level 5 of the Symtalk method and is for students that have had
one semester of Spanish 7-1 (Semester 1) in grade 7 and would like to continue
to build upon their knowledge of vocabulary and grammatical concepts. It is
highly recommended for those students interested in taking Spanish I in grade 8
for high school credit. (Class offered based on numbers and schedule availability)
TEEN LEADERSHIP 7
Teen Leadership is a program in which students develop leadership, personal,
and business skills. They learn to develop a healthy self-concept, healthy
relationships, and learn to understand the concept of personal responsibility.
Students will develop skills in public speaking and communication and an
understanding of personal image. They will also develop an understanding of
the need for vision in goal-setting, both personally and professionally.
VISUAL ART 7
Students employ aesthetics & basic skills, techniques and materials in the areas
of ceramics, design, drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, etc. to create
projects. Visual Art 7 is a project-based class with occasional notes, sketches,
self-reflection evaluations and a portfolio. Projects will differ each semester.

ELECTIVES
FULL YEAR COURSES
BAND 7
Band 7, a performance group, is open to any student who has successfully
completed Band 6 and/or Band 7 or the equivalent training on a musical
instrument. Emphasis will be placed upon musical and technical development,
advancing through the intermediate level. Performances will include fall, winter,
and spring appearances and District Band and Orchestra Festival. Solo and
Ensemble plying will also be included. Attendance at performances is required
as part of the course work.
Students who have never played an instrument before may be allowed to join at
the discretion of the band director.
