About the Artist
Born in 1971, Bertrand Giraud obtained his Piano Diploma and his
Chamber Music Diploma from the Geneva Conservatory in 1995
with “Mention Très Bien” as a pupil of Dominique Merlet. He also
obtained a Vocal Accompaniment Diploma from the Paris
Conservatory. His subsequent studies have been with Bruno Canino,
Colette Zerah, and Aquiles Delle Vigne.
Mr. Giraud has won numerous national and international musical
contests, such as the Concours Flame (Paris), and was a second prize
winner at the International Chopin Piano Competition. Mr. Giraud
has performed throughout Europe (France, Belgium, Bulgaria,
England, Germania, Cyprus, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Macedonia,
Norway, Poland, Austria, Italy, Romania, Russia, Spain, Serbia and
Switzerland), and also in the Americas, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand.
An experienced soloist, he has worked with numerous conductors
and orchestra, including appearances with the Lodz Philharmonic, Lublin Philharmonic, Orchestre
Symphonique du Sodre, Orchestre Provincial de Rosario, and has collaborated with numerous
pianists and chamber groups, including Pierre Amoyal, Bruno Pasquier, Henri Demarquette, Ami
Flammer, Philippe Pierlot, Benoit Fromanger, and L’Octuor de France. He has worked with FranceMusiques, and has appeared on television in the USA, Italy, and Thailand, including a performance
in the presence of the Queen of Thailand. He has served as a judge for many national and
international competitions, including competitions in Sydney, Porto, Marsala, Calabria and Bitola.
He has given numerous masterclasses throughout Europe, including Serbia, Germany and
Kazakhstan (Astana Academy of Music).
In addition to possessing a wide solo and chamber repertory including the main works of the tonal
repertoire, Mr. Giraud has championed new music written by composers such as Francaix, Pessina,
and Kutnowski, and he also commissioned and premiered a work by composer Jean Louis Petit.
Since 1998, he has been the Artistic Director of the International Jean Francaix competition. Mr.
Giraud has recorded four CDs that have been received to critical acclaim: two devoted to chamber
music (Schumann and Franck with Jean-Baptiste Brunier, viola; and the complete works for flute
and piano by Jadin with Frédéric Chatoux), and two featuring solo repertoire: “Bridges to the Past,”
featuring piano works by Debussy, Kutnowski, and Francaix, and another featuring works by Franz
Liszt for ANIMA.
