needed funding year round.

Together, they raise the money, plan the season, create the marketing pieces,
coordinate with volunteers, write the press releases and take care of all the day
to day administrative duties that come with putting together productions each
year. And it doesn’t end when the show opens.
Our 2006 opening night still finds us $40,000 short of making our budget.
Suggestions have been made to convert to a ticketed event, but the duo is
determined to continue the program in the spirit in which it was created:
admission free.

expenses. This includes designers, directors, set materials, props,

Donations that are placed in the metal box at the end of the show go directly to
the actors. We split them up amongst the cast, using a share system, like in
Shakespeare’s days.
They rehearse for 5 weeks, and perform for
8 weeks, traveling from all over Los
Angeles and Orange Counties to do so on
their own dime. (Gas isn’t cheap these
days!)

S Y N O P S I S by Diana Tallie
A wacky tale of two sets of twins separated at an early age and
reunited later in life in an unlikely site. Egeon and Emilia have twin
sons, Antipholus by name. They are attended by twin servants named
Dromio. The family is separated at sea during a storm. Egeon, one of
the Antipholuses and one of the Dromios survive together and grow
up in Syracuse. Emelia survives with the other Antiphoulus and
Dromio, only to have a rude fisherman steal the boys from her. In
sorrow, she becomes a nun in the town of Ephesus. By fate, her
Antipholus and Dromio move to Ephesus also, but they don’t know
she is there. As fate and luck would have it, both sets of twins and
both parents end up in Ephesus and confuse the town completely as
they operate outside of each other’s sphere of influence and
knowledge of each other. A wild time of mistaken identities ensues,
until the family is finally reunited and all is revealed.

SYNOPSIS
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark. Old King Hamlet was
murdered by his brother, who then married the Queen and took the
throne. Prince Hamlet, son of the old King, is commanded by his
father’s ghost to take revenge. Instead of quickly killing his uncle,
Hamlet puts on an act of madness. No one is able to help him, not
his mother, his girlfriend Ophelia, nor his old friends Rosencrantz
and Guildenstern. Eventually Hamlet’s delay leads to a series of
tragic deaths, and the world keeps moving into the future despite
Hamlet’s best attempt to stop it.

CORINA BOWLER - 1 st Merchant , Player Queen
Born and raised in John Day, Oregon. She was last seen playing six
roles in Parallel Lives at Southern Oregon University where she
received her Bachelor of Ar ts in Theater. During the last year she
enjoyed being an assistant teacher at Los Angeles Theater Academy
for a character analysis class.
JOHN E. FARRELL - Antipholus of Ephesus, Ghost
John, a theatre artist and educator, is grateful for the opportunity to act
in support of SBTS. A member of several theatre companies and
professional theatre associations; he writes, produces, directs and
acts. John has enjoyed the privilege of working with members of the
RSC, the Globe of America Academy, and the Stratford Festival of
Canada. He is a mentor for Shakespeare text analysis and teaches an
introduction to Shakespeare class, Elizabethan scene study, acting and
voice development for the stage. Among the many Shakespearian roles
he has performed, he includes among his favorites, The Fool in King
Lear, Touchstone in As You Like It and Nick Bottom in A Mid Summer
Night’s Dream. John has also been artistic director of two professional
touring theatre companies for which he adapted and staged the writings
of over 70 different authors.
DONALD FORMANECK - Antipholus of Syracuse, Claudius
This is Don’s first outing with SBTS and he is thrilled to be a part of this
production. Don has just completed his first year of the MFA program in
acting at Cal State Long Beach where he recently took part in (M)asking
questions, an original piece conceived and created by California Repertory members themselves. A few of Don’s previous roles were Uncle Peck
in How I learned to Drive, Clive/Cathy in Cloud Nine, Argon in The Imagi-

nary Invalid and the Stage Manager in Our Town and other notable
productions including Cabaret, Bleacher Bums, and The Importance of
Being Earnest.

Duchess
This is Natalie’s first production with SBTS. She is a recent transplant from
New York where she was very active in theater, including the Off-Broadway
shows Shakespeare in Concert and Birdy’s Bachelorette Party, which was
produced by the creators of Tony and Tina’s Wedding. Since moving to LA,
she has played Desdemona in Othello at the Stella Adler Theater and is a
member in the improv troupe, The Omlettes. Other favorite projects
include Chapelle’s Show on Comedy Central, the films, Cupidity and
Timeless, directed by John Gallagher, and Eleanor in Henry VI, Part II at the
American Theater of Actors. A graduate of Georgetown University, she is
currently a student in the professional track at the Groundlings.
MICHAEL IRISH - Dromio of Syracuse, Osric
Michael was recently see as Matt in The Fantasticks at The Curtis Theater in
Brea. He is a company member of the Chance Theater in Anaheim Hills, where
he has been seen in many shows, including Oedipus at Colonus, Company, The
Eight: Reindeer Monologues, The Diary of Anne Frank, Fig: R.O., and Cabaret.
He has also performed Poona the Mad F***dog and Other Plays for Children at
Rude Guerilla Theater, Gypsy, Follies and The Philadelphia Story at No Square
Theater, Oliver!, The Phantom Tollbooth, and Working at the Laguna Playhouse,
Cinderella, Coriolanus, and Gretel & Hansel at Shakespeare Santa Cruz, and The
Caucasian Chalk Circle, and A Christmas Carol at South Coast Repertory. He
appeared in several shows at U.C. Santa Cruz including Ah, wilderness!,
Translations, and Art, where he earned his BA in theater in 2003.

MARK JOSEPH - Hamlet
Mark holds a BA from Yale University where he sang his way around the
world as a Yale Whiffenpoof. He holds a Certificate of Training from
Circle in the Square’s acting conservatory, an MFA from California State
University Long Beach and is a member of the California Repertory
Theatre. He is the resident director/playwright for Little Fish Theatre
and producer/director of Pick of the Vine. His play, Inside My Father’s
Apple Tree, received a successful production at Little Fish in 2004.
Mark’s favorite directing credits include West Side Story at Musical
Theatre West; The Ladies Not For Burning, Blithe Spirit, and
Desdemona, A Play About a Handkerchief at Little Fish Theater; and
Richard III and Much Ado About Nothing at Shakespeare by the Sea. Mark
has been teaching acting for over ten years and teaches the Meisner
technique at The Acting Corps in Los Angeles.
ANDY KALLOK - Aegeon, Marcellus
Now in his fifth season with SBTS, Andy has performed in Macbeth, Much
Ado About Nothing, Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, Richard III, Two
Gentlemen of Verona, Othello and Merry Wives... At Little Fish, he has
acted in three consecutive Pick of the Vine one-act programs and the
world premiere of Mark Piatelli’s Inside My Father’s Apple Tree. He is
currently filming an independent film short about movie extras.

RACHEL LEVY - Luciana
Rachel originally hails from Seattle and is excited to return to SBTS. Rachel
was most recently seen onstage in Pick of the Vine at Little Fish Theatre.
She was also seen on Comedy Central’s sketch show The Hollow Men as the
nursing mother. She has a BA in Drama from the University of Washington
and has also studied theatre in England. Other recent productions include
the 2003 and 2004 SBTS Seasons, The Lady’s Not for Burning as Margaret,
a featured reader in Grace & Competra’s Speaking of Stories in Santa
Barbara, and the beglittered Good Fairy in the Holiday Panto at the Lobero
Theatre for two years. Other favorite stage projects include Cloud Nine,
Sincerity Forever and Cymbeline.
REBECCA LINCOLN - Angelo, Ophelia
This is Rebecca’s first season with SBTS, having only recently relocated to
beautiful Los Angeles. She is a graduate of Northwestern University’s
undergraduate theater program, and holds master’s degrees in acting from
both Carnegie Mellon University and the Moscow Art Theater. A Shakespeare
devotee, she has performed the Bard’s work both indoors and out across the
country and even abroad. In fact, shortly after SBTS, she will be catching a
plane to New York to appear as Mistress Ford in an American Studio Theater

production of The Merry Wives of Windsor. Rebecca is also proud to be a
founding member of Chicago’s Dream Theatre Company.

Jill is delighted to be making her debut with Shakespeare by the Sea. Most
recently she appeared as a guest artist in the title role in Medea at Golden
West College. She counts numerous credits throughout the OC and bits of
LA including Three Sisters, A View from the Bridge, Heartbreak House,
Talley’s Folly, The Crucible, Hedda Gabler, A Shayna Maidel, The Lady’s Not
for Burning and Much Ado About Nothing at the Vanguard Theatre
Ensemble; Some Explicit Polaroids, Handbag, The History of the Devil, and
Search and Destroy at Rude Guerrilla Theatre; and Molly Sweeney at The
Chance Theatre. She collected an OC Weekly award for her work in Insurgo
Theatre Movement’s Wuthering Heights, where she also performed in
Richard III. She has also appeared in roles at Long Beach Studio Theatre,
The Theatre District, and Shakespeare Orange County. She holds a Master’s
in Theatre from California State University Fullerton.
CHRIS ROBERTS - Polonius
This is Chris’ third season with SBTS. He played Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night,
Lord Montague in Romeo and Juliet, Desdemona’s father in Othello. Chris
directed the gripping dramas Oleanna and The Beauty Queen of Leenane at
Little Fish Theater. He is also active with the Kentwood Players at the
Westchester Playhouse where he was recently voted best director for Blood
Brothers. Chris enjoys “gutsy” theater, so he feels right at home in Hamlet.

Crystal Sershen fled Hop Bottom, PA at the age of fifteen and worked as a
seamstress, Bingo attendant, forklift driver, sailor, bartender, word
processor, and clown (the latter two being virtually interchangeable),
eventually landing in New York. There she studied cinema and theatre at
NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, earned her second-degree black belt in
Shotokan karate, and worked as a stage manager and assistant director.
After a stint in story editing and screenwriting, Crystal moved to LA to fully
pursue acting and now works in film, television and theatre. She is a
company member and manager of The Will Geer Theatricum, where classical
theatre has seeped into her bones.

Starting in commercials as a child and raised in TV station hallways, acting,
producing and voiceover is all Aaron knows. Aaron earned a BFA from the
University of Michigan where he studied with world-renowned artists
including Athol Fugard, Arthur Miller, Lanford Wilson, Mark Lamos and the
Royal Shakespeare Company. Currently, Aaron is producing a feature
called Dead and Gone with rock stars Ben Moody (Evanescence) and Kyle
Gass (Tenacious D), is continuing voiceover work, and is gearing up to
play in another feature called Zombie TV. His films include Nightmare Man,

Barbara just returned to LA after playing Lady Macbeth with the Utah
Shakespearean Festival’s Educational Tour. She performed for and taught
Shakespeare to high school students across the West. She is happy to be a
part of SBTS and to return to San Pedro after playing Celimene in Little Fish
Theatre’s production of The Misanthrope. Other recent credits include
Christine Scott in Murder By the Book at the Long Beach Playhouse, Wilmore
in The Rover at The Chance Theatre, and Audrey in As You Like It at California
Shakespeare Company. Barbara received her degree in Drama from the
University of Washington School of Drama.
TONI TRENTON - Abbess
Toni has trained with Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler and Milton Katselas
among others and has taught acting at the Strasberg Institute and New
York Film Academy. Some of Ms. Trenton’s television and film credits
include multiple appearances on General Hospital, independent films
and commercials. Theatre credits include Brighton Beach Memoirs at West
Coast Ensemble, two recent Ray Bradbury plays at Theatre West and many

Shakespeare productions. Toni is excited to be playing the Abbess in The
Comedy of Errors with this remarkable theatre company.
JIM VAN OVER - Dromio of Ephesus, Rosencrantz
Around Los Angeles, Jim has been seen as Romeo in The Theatre
at Boston Court’s Romeo and Juliet and Orlando in The Gardner Stages’ As
You Like It. In the two years as an acting company member with The Oregon
Shakespeare Festival, Jim enjoyed the opportunity to play Adrian in The
Tempest, Menelaus in Troilus and Cressida, Antonio’s Man in The Merchant
of Venice, Peter Simple in The Merry Wives Of Windsor, Joseph in The
Taming Of The Shrew, and Peter in Stop Kiss. He can also be seen as Lt.
Jose Tyler in Star Trek: New Voyages. Jim’s training includes a BFA in acting
from Southern Oregon University and certification from Mike Nichols’ New
Actors Workshop in New York.

Producing
Director
Founder and creator of Shakespeare by the Sea, Lisa is happy to be
producing her 9th season. She holds an MFA in Theatre Management
from CSU, Long Beach and a BFA in Ar t from CSU, Sacramento. Lauded
as “Pedro’s Playmaker” in 2003 by Random Lengths , Lisa is living up
to her moniker. Not only does she produce the free festival each
summer, but she manages the Little Fish Theatre, San Pedro’s intimate
indoor 50-seat theatre, currently in its 5th season. Between yearround demands of SBTS and Little Fish, she works as a graphic
designer and splits her free time between Redondo Beach and
Newcastle (Sacramento).

Josh has directed dozens of plays up and down the West Coast, including
an award-winning new play at The Magic in San Francisco. He adapted and directed
Aphra Behn’s The Rover for Chance Theater in Anaheim, and remounted the
production for a live television broadcast on KOCE, Orange County’s PBS affiliate.
Recent productions include The Misanthrope at Little Fish (named a top ten
production of 2005 by the Daily Breeze), Macbeth at The MET Theater in
Hollywood, and an OC Weekly award-winning production of The Eight: Reindeer
Monologues at the Chance. Josh was founder and first artistic director of Impact
Theatre in Berkeley, California. He teaches acting at UC Riverside and Cal State
Long Beach, and has taught Shakespeare and acting at South Coast Rep, the
American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Hollywood, the California and San Francisco
Shakespeare Festivals, and the American Conservatory Theater. Josh holds an MFA
in Directing from the University of Washington, Seattle, and was a participant in
the Lincoln Center’s Directors Lab West 2004.

The Comedy of Errors makes Darin’s first time directing Shakespeare,
although he has appeared in a number of productions. Darin was the
director of the runaway hit The Book of Liz at the Blank Theater in
Hollywood. Other credits with the Blank include the LA Times Critic’s
Choice A Hole in the Dark, the world premiere of American Way, Fill in
the Blank, as well as Shock Therapy, Castles Made of Sand, Something
Good and Algor Mortis for the Blank’s Young Playwrights Festival. Darin
is also the Artistic Director of the Living Room Series at the Blank
Theatre. Other LA credits include the revival of Loot for Theatre East,
Tape at the Lounge Theatre, Heathen Valley at the Elephant Asylum,
Absence of Angels and
Mileage for Write Act
Repertory and Comedy with a
Twist for the Colony Theater.
His next project is Tally’s
Folly for The Syzygy Theatre

This is David’s first year with SBTS. Since moving to Los Angeles five years
ago from the University of Iowa, he has worn many hats in order to pursue
acting, a calling he has had since he was six years old. Recently, He
graduated valedictorian of a two-year Meisner program in Santa Monica. He
has been seen as Capt. Von Trapp in The Sound of Music, Fagin in Oliver!,
Judas is Eyes of the Blind, and Guildenstern in Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern are Dead. David has also been the stage manager of many
plays including Eden at the Elephant Asylum, Speaking in Tongues at the
Powerhouse Theater, The Monster Under My Bed Drank My Vodka, and
Precious Piglet and Her Pals at the Whitefire Theater in Sherman Oaks.
AARON JACKSON - Scenic Designer
Aaron joins SBTS for his second season after designing Othello and Merry
Wives of Windsor last year. Originally from the LaCrosse area in WI, Aaron
received his Masters in Set Design from Rutgers University and has
worked in theatres across
the country as a designer
and/or scenic artist.

VALERIE WRIGHT - Costume Designer
Valerie Wright has a BFA in fashion design from the Otis Art Institute. This is
her third year with Shakespeare by the Sea. She just recently finished
Romeo & Juliet for the Westchester Playhouse and Ba Ba and the Windigo
for the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, Virginia. Her other works include
Androcles and the lion, Coupla White Chicks..., Hello Dolly, A Midsummer
Night’s Dream, a Civil War reenactment, and her favorite: Othello. She has
also designed gowns for the Grammy and Academy awards, and her private
clients include The Brethren of the Coast, Cree Summer and Amy Smart.
CHUCK STOLAREK - Costume Assistant
Chuck is a freelance designer living in Los Angeles. After receiving a BFA
from Rhode Island School of Design in 2002, he moved to Los Angeles to
build his clothing line Wooden Mustache from the ground up. Wooden
Mustache is a line of contemporary sportswear separates with the idea that
nothing is ugly if approached and presented from the right perspective.
Chuck will be attending Central St. Martins in London next year to continue
his evolution as an artist. In addition to cutting things out and sewing them
together, Chuck enjoys biking, Panda Express, and slot machines.

SHAUN MICHAEL PAGE - Prop Master
No stranger to design, Shaun recently marked his debut as a Theatrical
Prop Master in Shakespeare by The Sea’s productions of Hamlet & Comedy
of Errors. He has a diverse design background ranging from art direction
and fashion ylist to jewelry and clothing design. Other credits include
Wheel of Fortune (art department), Jennifer Lopez Music Videos (art
department/ shopper) and Fred Segal Beauty (fashion stylist), just to
name a few. Shaun’s work has been featured in a variety of publications
throughout the world. He is proud to be a part SBTS’s amazing company.

Samantha has been involved in theater throughout California and Nevada
for 14 years. She has had a torrid love affair with Shakespeare’s work

Jasmine Johnson has a BFA in Theatre from New York University, where she
focused on stage management, directing, set and costume design. She is
working towards becoming a unit production manager for film, and owning
her own production company. This is Jasmine’s first year working with
Shakespeare by the Sea, and she is looking forward to an amazing summer.
MARTIN NOYES - Fight Director
His most resent credit is the American Premier of Hitchcock Blonde at South
Coast Repertory, in which he also played the Husband. Other credits include
The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabbler (South Coast Repertory), I’m not
Rappaport (Little Fish Theatre Company), Big Love, Cabaret, Hot ‘N’ Throbbing, A Christmas Story, and Never in My Lifetime (The Chance Theatre), The
Grapes of Wrath (Alabama Shakespeare Festival). Martin received his BFA
from Southern Oregon University and his MFA from the University of Alabama
both in theatre with an acting emphasis. Martin is also a member of the
Society of American Fight Directors.
