Notes
1.3.1 Notes on Version 3.04.02
Version 3.04.02 was created on the basis of RAIS version V3.04.01.
A new Java version jre-1.5.0_05 was used to create the RAIS GUI. This Java Runtime Environment
(JRE) is also part of the delivery.
When GUI is called for the first time, the JRE is installed on the Client (i.e. the PC). The user requires
one-time administrator rights on the PC.
As a default, the JRE is installed under C: or D:\Programme\Java\jre-1.5.0_05 or
D:\program files\Java\jre-1.5.0_05.
Settings
After the installation has finished, the RAIS GUI will be called. Before you start working with the RAIS GUI
we recommend making or verifying the following settings:
•
Set authorisation (as the PC administrator) via the second browser window that is opened when the
RAIS GUI is started:
Select the link ‘Berechtigung / Authorisation / Autorisation’ and press the buttom ‘Open’ in the download window.
The file ‘permission.exe’ will be executed. This file is responsible for the apples signature, which enables Copy / Cut / Paste in the RAIS GUI and also printing files and hardcopies.
•
Setting 32 bit mode
In Windows, select ‘Start / Settings / System / View’:

‘Settings’ tab

Windows XP: ‘Color quality’: Highest (32 bit)
If these values are not set, the hardcopy in the RAIS GUI is illegible.

‘Presentation’ tab: Effects:
If the checkmark for ‘Hide underlined letters for keyboard navigation (show with Alt key)’ is removed, the hotkeys (e.g.O for ‘OK’) will be visible in the RAIS GUI.

Java Plug-in settings
Select in Windows ‘Start / Settings / System / Java Plug-in (coffee cup):
-
Tab ‘General’: Temporary Internet Files: Delete files
-
Tab ‘Update’: Remove the checkmark from ‘Automatically search for updates’ and press the
‘Take over’ button so that the settings will actually be adopted.
-
Tab ‘Expanded’: <Applet> tag support: Set checkmark for ‘Internet Explorer’ before pressing the
‘Take over’ button.
Press the ‘OK’ button.
•
Check or change browser settings
In the Internet Explorer remove the checkmark from ‘Open link in the same window’. If the checkmark
is seet, the RAIS GUI will be impeded when other windows are opened (e.g. help windows or other
browser windows).
Version 3.04.02 was tested with the following Internet Explorer browser versions: 6.0.2800.1106 and
6.0.2900.2180.
We also recommend updating the file rais.properties under /etc/apache/jserv as follows:

Miscellaneous
•
With Java 1.5 it is no longer possible to run two different Java applications on one Client (PC) in parallel, i.e. it is no longer possible to start a RAIS GUI with Java 1.4.1 or 1.4.2, and at the same time to
start a RAIS GUI with Java 1.5.0.
However, it is possible to start on a Client (PC) a Java application (RAIS GUI) with Java 1.4.1 or
1.4.2. If you wish to start a RAIS GUI with Java 1.5.0, you have to close the other application.
•
With Java 1.5, ‘Start / Settings / System’ now only displays the Java 1.5 Plug-in (coffee cup).
The different Java versions (in a standard installation) are located under:
D:\program files\Java\ or under D:\Programme\Java\
(or C instead of D).
•
Ensure that e.g. for j2re1.4.1_07 or j2re1.4.2_05 the setting of the Java Plugin is correct:
Start the file jpicpl32.exe (double click) under D:\program files\Java\j2re1.4.1_07\bin.
The control panel for the Java Plugin j2re1.4.1_07 is displayed.
•
Please check or make the following settings (only once):
-
‘Standard’ tab: Activate ‘Konsole einblenden’ (show console) or ‘Konsole ausblenden’ (hide console) according to requirements. The checkmark is set to ‘Java im System Tray anzeigen’ (show
Java in the System Tray) as a default.
-
‘Expanded’ tab: Select JRE 1.4.1_07 and press the ‘Take over’ button.
-
‘Browser’ tab: Set checkmark to IE and press the ‘Take over’ button.
-
‘Cache’ tab: Remove checkmark from ‘Cache aktivieren’ (activate cache) and press the ‘Take
over’ button.
The same applies for Java 1.4.2_05.

1.3.2 Known Errors in Version 3.04.02
The following irregularities are known in the RAIS-GUI. They only affect interface handling, but do not
have any technical effects.
Examples:
•
Sometimes, the context menu (right mouse click in a field) does not disappear when you click another
field.
•
Sometimes, the context menu creates ‘exceptions’ (only visible in the Java console)
1.3.3 Notes on Version 3.04.00.00
Version 3.04.00 was created on the basis of RAIS version 3.02.02.06. Its database system is Oracle version 9.2.
The version can run on the operating systems Suse Linux ES 8 and IBM AIX 5.3.
For IBM AIX 5.3 the 64bit Kernel mode must be set. For this, the process-Ids were expanded from 32 to
64 bit.
The changes of versions 3.03.01.01 to 3.03.01.05 are integrated in version 3.04.00 (see Release Notes
3.03).
Additionally, they contain corrections that have been released for version 3.04.00.
Version V3.04.00 was developed and tested with Java version j2re-1_4_2_05. This Java Runtime environment (JRE) is part of the delivery.
When the GUI is called for the first time, the JRE will be installed on the Client (PC). For this installation,
the user must have administrator rights on the PC.
As a standard, the JRE is installed under C:\Programme\Java\j2re1.4.2_05.
After the installation has finished, the RAIS-GUI will be called automatically.
Settings
Before you start working with the RAIS GUI we recommend making or verifying the following settings:

Otherwise, the system reminds you every day that there are new Java updates and it asks you
whether these are to be installed now or rather later.
Press the ‘Take over’ button so that the settings will actually be adopted.

Check or change Browser settings
In the Internet remove the hook from ‘Open link in the same window’. If the option is active, the
RAIS GUI will be overwritten by opening other windows (e.g. help window or other browser windows).
Miscellaneous
•
With Java 1.4.2 the underlining of standard buttons hotkeys when pressing the ‘Alt’ key will be visible
again, and also active (see Incident 22098)
•
With version V3.04.00 the RAIS online help was generated again with RoboHelp X5. It now has a
new look.
•
The Technical Manual was updated.
•
Version V3.04.00 was tested with the Internet Explorer Browser versions 6.0.2800.1106 and
6.0.2900.2180.

4 System Environment
This RAIS version can only be started on PCs for which the applet authorisation has been set. For more
information please refer to the User Guide chapter Defining Permissions.
4.1
Server
4.1.1 Server System Hardware

via LAN (printer server or built-in LAN card, e.g. HP Jet-Direct).
The individual hardware devices should be installed in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions.
