ROOTS OF TECHNOLOGY IN
ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS
Every ancient civilization such as Indian, Chinese,
Egyptian, Mayan etc had structured guidelines for the
building construction .They were applied from town planning
to the designing of an individual dwelling.
The techniques of designing a building is visible in
Indian Temples, palaces, Egyptian pyramids, Mayan
pyramids in Mexico, Stonework in Peru, Greek Parthenon,
Roman coliseum and many more.
VASTUSHASTRA
Vastu Shastra is a vast and an ancient science of living.
In Sanskrit, the word Vastu has root derived from `Vas’ –
to reside. ‘Vastu’ means abode or house and Shastra means
Science or Technology.
‘VastuShastra is the scientific method of house construction’

• 5000 yrs ago in Mahabharata, Demon Mayan had designed
palace Mayasabha as per Vastushastra.
• In the cities of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa the application of
Vastushastra can be seen.
• Vastu finds mention in Ramayana as well. The construction of
the holy city of Ayodhya, where Lord Rama was born
and ruled, shared a similarity with the plan written in the
great Vastu architecture text Manasara.
• Buddhist literature also makes numerous mentions of
buildings
based on Vastu. It is said that Lord Buddha used
to
deliver discourses on architecture and he was very
much conscious of the construction of the buildings in
order. There is a mention of various viharas, temples,
houses, buildings in the various Buddhist texts, based
on Vastushastra.
BASIC PRINCIPLE OF
VASTUSHASTRA
To prepare fertile ground for seed of Life to flower
and eternally experience the `Sat-Chid-Anand’
– The Eternal Bliss.
VASTU -PURUSH
The concept of `Prana’ – the Life force Energy, in
Yogashastra constantly permeates throughout Vastushastra
in the sense that it considers every Vastu – house, building
as a living entity in form of `Vastu Purush.’

The Sanskrit stotra says that if the energy stream is spiral
and helical, it automatically becomes one and unified with
immensity.
Traditionally energy is explained as form of helix which
termed as ‘Mandal’ in Sanskrit.
So ‘Vastu-Purush-Mandal’ explains the role of various
patterns of energy which plays an important role in Human
Life.

The science of Vastu aims at controlling the flow of these
energies in a building by selecting proper Directions,
Alignments and Orientations.
VastuShastra’s well defined rules and regulations ensure that

general are in Harmony with the surrounding environment
and the entire Universe.
