JUPARANA COLOMBO Hardness: Structure: Synonyms: Group: Petrographic assignment: Age: Colouring minerals: Average hardness: Deposit: hard slab with irregular pattern Mauve Juprana, River rose Metamorphite Gneiss - Migmatite 900 million years (Precambrian) Salmon pink feldspar, clear quartz, white feldspar, black biotite, metallic flakes of magnetite 6 (according to Mohs's hardness scale 1-10) / Natural stone Sri Lanka - in the vicinity of the capital Colombo Petrography: Yellowish-brown to ochre yellow and pink-yellow, largely medium-sized grained migmatite. Juparana Colombo has an extensive texture, which is intensified by biotite streaks, ribbons and nests. The mineral fraction consists of light feldspar, which gets the various shades of red from haematite inclusions. The stone gets its rich on contrast grey ribbon structure from ribbon-like biotite inclusions. Petrogenesis: The Colombo/Sri Lanka Gneiss complex developed on the South Indian Shield during the Precambrian Period. At that time, India and Sri Lanka were still one continent. Original rock, granite or granite-like, as well as sediments made up of various components were pushed into the lower earth crust, where partial re-melting took place under very high pressures and temperatures. Hint: The close-up view of each stone type shows a relatively true image of the crystalline structure and the colouring. This is suitable for grained slabs to a limited extend only. In regard to the colour matching, please take an original sample of the stone from your furniture store as a basis.
