Turtle-Mania Genetics-PreAP
Purpose: to understand how genetic information is passed from parent to offspring.
You are about to select trait combinations for certain traits of a turtle. For each trait in the table below,
flip a coin.
1st-Flip the penny for the traits that the new baby turtle will receive from the mother turtle
2nd-Flip the nickel to determine the traits that the new baby turtle will receive from the father turtle.
If you get “heads” then put down a “capital” letter for the dominant trait. If you get “tails” then put
down a “lower case” letter for the recessive trait.
3rd-Then in the next column, combine the traits from the mother and father. These are the trait
combinations for the new baby turtle.
4th-In the final column write down what physical trait should appear in the baby turtle.
