moderate respiratory-based infections.
It works by actively preventing the growth of bacteria, and it does so by adversely affecting and
interfering with their protein synthesis. Ketek is speedily absorbed by the patient; and as a result of its high concentration of
phagocytes – which are cells found in the blood, bone marrow and other tissues that actively

ingest infectious agents in the human body – it is quickly transferred to the infection site. While most of the side-effects reported by patients taking Ketek are non-serious – such as
diarrhea, nausea, headache, and rashes – some extremely serious side-effects have been
described. As an example of this, in January 2006, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a
statement in which it was revealed the Annals of Internal Medicine had published an article in
which, the FDA said, three patients to whom Ketek had been prescribed subsequently
developed very severe liver toxicity.
Three months afterwards, in April 2006, FDA-derived material revealed 12 examples of acute
liver failure in patients prescribed Ketek – 4 of whom subsequently died as a result – and more
than 20 examples where patients taking Ketek had suffered from severe liver injury. Two years later, in April 2008, figures revealed that by then at least 18 deaths and 134 cases of
serious liver damage had been attributed to Ketek. Additional Information:
