Operating and installation instructions MSE Inside UP ZL/PL Keep for future use! Valid from 15 march 2015 General information Fig. 1 MSE Inside UP ZL/PL The motor control unit (MSE) Inside UP is an electronic control device to actuate a sun shading drive (Model ZL) or a window drive (Model PL, please read the corresponding section entitled "Safety instructions"!). The MSE Inside UP ZL is equipped with a time mode function, and variant "PL" is equipped with a permanent mode function. The motor control unit and the drive are supplied via safety extra low voltage (SELV) through an external power supply unit. The drive of the sun shading system or window can be operated with the motor control unit both via a local push button and an overriding control system. Furthermore, an external floating switch can be connected to the motor control unit, e.g. to protect your interior sun shading system when a window is open. Several motor control units can be connected into a group and controlled from a joint push button. Intended use The device was developed to control sun shading systems and window drives. The approval of the manufacturer must be obtained for uses outside of the purposes listed in these instructions. Safety instructions WARNING The electrical installation must be performed by a certified electrician in accordance with the electrical installation regulations published by the VDE Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE 0100) or the standards and regulations of the country in which the device is being installed. The electrician must observe the installation instructions included with the electrical device. 890462_e•en•15.03.2015 WARNING If hazard-free operation cannot be assumed, the device may not be started or must be deactivated. This assumption is justified If the housing or the supply lines show signs of damage, the device is no longer working. WARNING It is important to comply with the following points of instruction in the interest of personal safety! ■ Do not allow children to play with the operating elements of the control or remote control! Store the remote controls out of range from children! ■ Make sure that no persons or objects are in the range of movement of the driven parts (blinds, window, etc.! ■ Disconnect the device from the supply voltage if cleaning or other maintenance work must be performed. The MSE Inside UP (PL) may only be used to control such window drives where the movement of the window cannot cause any injuries! These windows include (partial list) according to DIN EN 60335-2-103: ► Windows with moving parts located at least 2.5 m above the floor or other access levels. ► Windows with drives equipped with an external or internal entrapment protection system. ► Windows with an opening speed that does not exceed 50 mm/s when moving between 15 mm and 50 mm away from the closed position, with a maximum opening width of 200 mm and with a closing speed that does not exceed 15 mm/s. Information on the electrical installation An on-site overload current disconnecting and isolating switch to switch off the entire system must be provided. The device meets the EMC directive for use in residential and commercial areas. We reserve the right to carry out improvements 1 Mounting The motor control unit is designed for installation in a standard switch box, recommended is a ø 70 mm flushmounted junction box. ■ Only such lines as are used for the wiring of the motor control unit should be routed into this box. The motor control unit is electrically connected according to the wiring diagram on the reverse. Handling the spring terminals Information Run time If the drive does not reach the limit switch within 3 minutes, the drive is cut off automatically, regardless of whether a local or a central move command was applied. Building groups Several MSE can be combined to a group via the control line and operated centrally via a push button switch (see wiring diagram). Information on Locking If an external floating switch or reed switch is to be connected to the motor control unit to lock e.g. your sun shading system against a window, the jumper between S1.1 and S1.2 (see wiring diagram) must be removed and the switch connected there. The sun shading system or the window can then only be operated when the switch is closed. Fig. 2 Connecting and disconnecting the line connections After the wire is stripped, it is pressed into the terminal (1) until the insulation on the wire enters the terminal and the line is securely held in the terminal (2). To disconnect the line, the appropriate unlock button needs to be pressed in as far as it will go using a screw driver, and the line then removed from the terminal (3). Commissioning The device is operational after the installation has been completed and the supply voltage applied. Function Local operation with Variant "ZL" After the local operating element has been operated, the sun shading system moves in the corresponding direction and stops after 2 seconds. If the control element is operated beyond that, the control will switch to lock mode. The button may then be released. The sun shading system moves up or down to the end position until the fixed run time of 3 minutes has expired. To release the latch and stop the motor, the button across from the drive command must be pressed quickly. Actuate the push button for less than 2 seconds if you only want to tilt the slats of an external Venetian blind. Maintenance There are no parts within the device that require maintenance. Liability Failure to comply with the product information in these instructions and use of the device in a manner that contravenes its intended use and purpose may result in the manufacture refusing to honour warranty claims for product damage. In this case, liability for consequential harm to persons or damage to property will also be excluded. Follow also the instructions in the operating manual of your sun shading system. The automatic or manual operation of the sun shading system when iced over as well as using the sun shading system during severe weather may cause damages and must be prevented by the user by taking suitable precautions. Disposal After its use, the device must be disposed of according to legal regulations or brought to your local recycling centre. Local operation with Variant "PL" The control of your roller shutter or window immediately goes into lock mode after the local operating element is activated and moves up or down to the limit position until the fixed run time of 3 minutes expires. To cancel the lock mode and stop the movement, either the "Up" or "Down" button must be pressed briefly. Information about the operating element A venetian blind switch or a push button with changeover contact and central position "OFF" must be used as local operating element. Central operation The local operation is disabled for the duration of central operation, a possibly existing lock is thereby cleared. 2 We reserve the right to carry out improvements 890462_e•en•15.03.2015 Technical data MSE Inside UP ZL/PL Min. typ.
