Crambe cordifolia (KRAM-bee kor-di-FOH-lee-uh) Colewort Deciduous Perennial 24” tall x 4’ wide Moderate Water Full Sun to Part Shade USDA Zones 5 -9 Crambe cordifolia is a large perennial that requires a lot of space. It has a foliage mound of huge, cabbage-like, green leaves which are usually deeply lobed. In early summer, small, white flowers appear in a large, baby's breath-like cloud of sweetly fragrant bloom. Flowers bloom spectacularly for about three weeks. This plant prefers deep, fertile, well-drained soils in full sun, but can tolerate part shade. Plants have tap roots and are best left undisturbed once established. Staking of flowering stems is usually required. Cabbage worms can be a problem on the foliage. Colewort looks good planted in the back of the border with other large perennials, or in an open sunny spot in the cottage-style garden.
