Foamflower Tiarella cordifolia
The foamflower is a perennial
that is found in rich woods. It
has leaves that look similar to
those of a maple tree. Its white
flowers have five petals with
claws on them. Historically, the
foamflower was used by the
Cherokee, Iroquois, Malecite,
and Micmac Native Americans.
Its leaf tea was used as a
mouthwash, to treat eye
ailments, and as a tonic
diuretic. Its roots were blended
into a tea as well, and used as
a diuretic. A poultice was also
used on wounds.
