About Actors Theatre of Louisville
Celebrating 50 years of outstanding theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, the State Theatre of
Kentucky, is the flagship arts organization in the Louisville community. Under the leadership of
Artistic Director Les Waters and Managing Director Jennifer Bielstein, Actors Theatre serves to
unlock human potential, build community and enrich quality of life by engaging people in
theatre that reflects the wonder and complexity of our time.
Actors Theatre presents almost 500 performances annually and delivers a broad range of
programming including classical repertory and contemporary work through the Brown-Forman
Series, holiday favorites, a series of free theatre by its Acting Apprentice Company and the
Humana Festival of New American Plays.
Summary of Position:
Perform wardrobe running duties for all assigned productions including: attending every
technical rehearsal and performance, doing laundry, facilitating necessary repairs. Supervise
assigned dressers.
Principal Responsibilities:
















Supervise and instruct dressers in the proper use of laundry machines and wardrobe
equipment
Ensure that wardrobe staff and other dressers are provided with the necessary
information and paperwork to perform their assigned tasks
Ensure a safe and comfortable work environment for wardrobe personnel and actors
Maintain a clean and organized workspace
Ensure dressing room set-ups comply with Equity guidelines
Ensure that equipment and supplies are properly maintained
Be present for all rehearsals, as requested, in which costume changes will be rehearsed
Attend all technical rehearsals in which costumes are being worn
Ensure that all actors are reasonably comfortable in their costumes
Ensure that actors’ garments are cleaned in compliance with Equity guidelines
Be present to run wardrobe for all scheduled performances
Ensure that repairs alter neither the designer’s vision nor the usability or lifespan of the
costumes
Ensure that all repair work is completed accurately and on schedule
Set up arrangements with vendor for weekly dry-cleaning, if necessary
Ensure that all costumes are cleaned after the last performance
Ensure that repairs are completed, or that the costume shop is aware of any necessary
repair work prior to returning costumes to costume stock







In concert with the assigned Costume Design Assistant, re-stock all costumes in a timely
manner after the last performance.
Provide electronic copies of all wardrobe paperwork to Wardrobe Manager for archival
purposes
Ensure that remounted show costume plots and quick change lists are updated
Set up and supervise Apprentice projects, as assigned
Attend costume department meetings when possible
Provide costume support for any other company departments as assigned
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:











Bachelor’s degree in theatre (or related field) or comparable professional experience (2+
years)
Must be highly motivated and a self-starter
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Comprehensive knowledge of costume care techniques and products
Proficient knowledge of various costume construction and repair skills
Proficiency in the operation of all wardrobe equipment and tools
Basic knowledge of wardrobe equipment maintenance
Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook
Valid Driver’s License and personal mode of transportation
Must be able to lift 40lbs
Must be able to climb ladders
Compensation
Compensation will be competitive with similar positions throughout the country. The range of
