A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) basic check or equivalent overseas police check will be obtained for employees at this level prior to their Start Date. Background Save the Children works in more than 120 countries. We save children’s lives. We fight for their rights. We help them fulfil their potential. Our fundraising operation generates over £100 million annually for children and our marketing reaches millions of UK households to mobilise support for our cause. We have extremely ambitious growth targets and in order to help achieve these it is fundamental that we have the right data, technology and process foundations within the CRM team, in order to deliver the highest levels of service to internal client teams and hence, our supporters. Central to this is the processing of data onto our supporter database. Job Purpose: The main purpose of this role is to accurately manage the timely transfer of supporter data onto our supporter database, CARE_NG. You will be part of a dedicated team that ensures all the data that drives our Fundraising and Advocacy income streams is imported to schedule and with total accuracy; monthly imports are typically worth around £3m. You will lead the drive to improve processes, ensuring solutions take into account the immediate requirements of the requester but also include the potential to expand to support other areas of the organisation. Big picture thinking is a must. You will embed the concept of excellent data quality management and the way data is managed, helping to identify root causes of issues and supporting the development of robust solutions to improve this area. There will also be the requirement to manage direct reports. Accountability- Ambition-Collaboration Creativity- Integrity Key Accountabilities: Manage the accurate and timely import of large and complex datasets into our supporter database, ensuring complete accuracy Lead in work to improve existing processes (and develop new ones) to meet the evolving demands of key internal stakeholders, e.g. speeding up turn-around times for imports from weekly to daily Work with other areas of the Import & Integrity team to continually review and optimise the quality of data on our supporter database Oversee regular bulk data cleanses to ensure all supporter information is up-to-date and accurate Lead in work to identify improvements and best practice import processes that exploit opportunities for simplification and automation, reducing the need for manual intervention as much as possible Work with the Talend development team to ensure all import processes take into account the requirements for automating through Talend and implications for downstream technologies such as Data Virtualisation and Campaign Manager Work with key suppliers to ensure they deliver the services promised, with the efficient and timely transfer of data of the highest quality to agreed protocols and SLAs Develop and deliver a range of reports that provide visibility of the performance of imports to internal stakeholders Develop and update written policies and procedures based on best practice, including users guides, and train users once developed Provide front end CARE_NG training for different users across the organisation Take responsibility for ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, e.g. correct capture of Gift Aid Declarations, true & proper capture of Data Protection preferences Support the development of the CARE_NG database, including the testing of any database upgrades Work closely with colleagues in the wider CRM team, especially the Data Planners, to provide coherent, practical and valuable data support to internal client teams Line manage 2-3 direct reports, with full responsibility for all aspects of line management including: o Recruitment, selection, on-boarding and retention o Performance management and personal development including regular 1:1s, periodic performance review meetings and annual appraisals supported by Save the Children’s competency framework o Coaching and provision of technical advice where appropriate Lead and mentor other members of the Import & Integrity team Carry out the responsibilities of the role in a way which reflects Save the Children's commitment to safeguarding children in accordance with the Child Safeguarding Policy. Accountability- Ambition-Collaboration Creativity- Integrity Person Specification Essential Technical Skills Significant experience gained in a number of similar organisations (in terms of size and complexity of CRM programme) Significant and demonstrable experience of working with, and importing, large volumes of time critical supporter data from multiple of internal and external sources Exceptional technical skills including significant experience using a variety of database query languages to extract and interrogate data from relational databases – MS Access, SQL Superb attention to detail along with a commitment to developing the highest levels of data quality, data integrity and Quality Assurance procedures Proven experience and skill at managing, developing and communicating data protocols, file transfer arrangements and data integrity Experience of managing high-performing teams and delivering for multiple internal stakeholders Experience of using different ETL tools and technologies Excellent project management experience, with proven experience delivering projects across multiple and varied initiatives Personal Skills Skilful at managing own time, especially balancing routine work with more complex projects to ensure everything is completed to schedule with total accuracy Rigorously delivers complex, detailed work so that there are no mistakes Proven ability in delivering to schedule, complex and diverse projects under challenging conditions A strong problem solver, able to deliver innovative and effective solutions based on sound judgement and to apply a holistic view to the identification of performance improvement opportunities Excellent and proven communicator with the confidence to explain technical issues in a simple and engaging manner to a wide range of audiences, through a variety of means A passion for data, always keen to learn new technologies and keep abreast of new thinking in the data industry that could help the CRM team Education/Professional Skills Educated to degree level or above, or significant experience working & importing with large datasets Excellent written and spoken English
