PLANTS!
Created and presentation by Victor Peng
Organisms
•
An organism is a living thing.
•
Plants and animals are
organisms.
•
All organisms have cells.
Plant Cells
Plant cells are the basic
building blocks of life.
Plant cells have chlorophyll.
Chlorophyll traps energy from
the sunlight, and they take in
sunlight to make food for the
plant.
Parts of a Plant
•
There are three parts of a
plant.
•
The three parts of a plant is
roots, stem, and leaves.
What a Plant Needs to Survive
•
Sunlight is also called energy,
and energy is what a plant needs
to survive.
•
They also need nutrients to
survive.
•
They also need minerals to
survive.
•
They also need soil to survive.
•
They need water and carbon
dioxide to survive.
Roots
•
The roots are the part of
the plant that grows
underground.
•
They help hold the plant
in the soil.
•
They take in water,
nutrients, and minerals.
•
They deliver the water,
nutrients, and minerals to
the stem.
Stem
•
The stem carries water,
nutrients,and minerals from
the roots.
•
The stem is the plant part that
supports the plant.
•
It supports the plant, and it
helps the plant stand upright.
•
It carries food from its leaves
to other plant parts.
Leaves
•
The leaves are the plant part
that makes food.
•
The chlorophyll they have
makes food for the plant.
Life Cycle of a Plant
•
A plant starts out as something
small such as a seed.
•
Then, the seed gradually grows
into an embryo.
•
After that, the embryo gradually
grows new roots and a new
stem.
•
Finally, the new root and stem
gradually grows into a new
plant and reproduces.
Flowering Plants
•
Flowering plants produce
seeds in flowers, or they
produce seeds in fruits.
Conifers
•
Conifers produce seeds in
cones.
•
Their leaves look like needles
or brushes.
•
They make male cones and
female cones.
•
They include pine trees,
spruces, hemlocks, and
evergreens.
•
They reproduce their seeds in
cones.
Why People Need Plants to
Survive
•
The first reason for why
people need plants to
survive is that we breathe in
the oxygen they give out.
•
The other reason for why
people need plants to
survive is we eat the food
they reproduce their seeds
in.
