Course: Geometry Level: PS3 Course Description: This course will focus on analyzing properties of two dimensional and 3 dimensional shapes and figures. It is the bases of many physics, robotics, architecture and engineering courses. Since we do not live in a 1 dimensional world this is an introduction to real world measurements and calculations. Course Goals: Upon completion of this course students will: • Recognize and define geometric shapes and figures • Understand patterns and formulate logical mathematical arguments • Understand transformations, symmetry, congruency, and use spatial reasoning. • Use formulas and theorems to prove and calculate geometric relationships Course Objectives: This course will provide foundational skills and helps to build the thinking skills of logic, deductive reasoning, analytical reasoning and problem solving Foundations of Geometry Points, lines and planes Segments and their measures Angles and their measures Segments and Angle bisectors Review: Perimeter, Circumference, Area Reasoning: Patterns and inductive reasoning Conditional Statements Definitions and Bi-conditional Statements Deductive Reasoning Proving Angle Statements and Segments Lines and Coordinate plane Lines and Angles Perpendicular lines and parallel lines Parallel lines and transversals Proving parallel line Coordinate plane Triangles Triangles and Angles Ratios and proportions Proving Triangles are similar Perpendiculars and Bisectors Bisectors of a Triangle Medians and Mid Segments Right triangles Introduction to Pythagorean theorem Geometric figures Circles, Arcs, chords and secants Tangents and transcribed figures Regular polygons Areas and volumes, perimeter and circumference
