Organic Opportunities from India: This far and New Initiatives! Farmers with “Sustainability Concerns” 2. Progressive and ‘Market Oriented’ Organic Farmers About 74% farmers of India are small and marginal farmers. So organic farming is more relevant for them to help reduce costs and to increase incomes. Agriculture/Horticulture 2. Animal husbandry: • Dairying, Piggery/Sheep/Goat keeping, Poultry • Bee keeping (Apiculture) 3. Organic input productions: • • Composting, Vermicomposting, NADEP, Biodigestors, etc Community compost unit through rural entrepreneurs 4. Biogas units (for clean energy and slurry as input) 5. Processing and Value addition facilities • • Village level Pack-houses (Collection, grading, packing centres) Primary processing: Drying, slicing, Logistics 6. Rural entrepreneurship 7.
