Garlic Mustard,
Alliaria petiolata
First-year plants are low to the ground with toothed,
kidney-shaped leaves. Second year plants sprout a
flowering stalk with serrated, triangular, alternate leaves
Habitat: moist, shady, rich soil
Flowers: 4-petaled, on stalks
Distribution in park: not yet found
Callery Pear
Pyrus calleryana
May be thorny as a young tree. Upright and narrow as a
mature tree. Leaves are alternate, ovate, shiny, and
leathery. Leaves turn red and purple in fall.
Habitat: Full sun, minor shade
Flowers: bloom in early Spring before leaves, white, 5petaled, ~1 in across
Fruits: mature in fall, small, hard, brown
Bark: Light brown to red-brown, smooth with lenticels
when young, gray-brown with furrows when mature
Bush Honeysuckle
Lonicera maackii et al.
Upright shrubs with opposite, tapering, pointed leaves.
Leaves have a pale green underside.
Habitat: sunny areas, shaded forest understory, wet or dry
Flowers: tubular, white or pink
Fruit: matures in September/October, paired red berries
Other: new twig growth is square-shaped, stems are hollow

Perennial woody vine with ovate, opposite leaves.
Habitat: open woodland, successional fields
