Key Understandings

Students will be able to use creative processes to Explore and Create, to
Reason and Reflect and to Communicate and Document their music.
Music is organized sound and can be described in terms of Meter, Pitch,
Expression, Rhythm and Timbre.
Developing technical skills on an instrument requires consistent, mindful
practice.
Music is the creative expression of human emotion and life experiences.
Assessment tools
- Authentic assessment with video recordings (solo and group).
- Written reflections and self-assessments of musical knowledge and personal
performance experience.
Term 1 2016/17
Kindergarten Learning Objectives
- Use the voice to sing in tune and in rhythm while keeping a steady tempo.
- Use the voice to express emotion and imitate animal sounds.
- Know the names of basic classroom percussion instruments.
- Recognize the sounds of basic classroom percussion instruments.
Primary Learning Objectives.
- Begin to develop good vocal technique with regards to sound production,
pitch and expression.
- Understand the basic definition of the five elements of music; Meter, Pitch,
Expression, Rhythm and Timbre.
- (G1,2,3)Demonstrate skills in playing a Boomwhacker with accurate
counting and steady tempo.
- (G3)Demonstrate skills in playing an Orff Keyboard with expressive
technique, accurate counting and steady tempo.
Intermediate Learning Objectives.
- Demonstrate a good sound on a Soprano Recorder using correct
fingerings and articulation.
- Play a minimum of five different notes on the Recorder.
- Demonstrate a good sound on the Ukulele/Guitar using correct posture,
hand position and fingering technique.
- Play a minimum of three chords and five notes on the ukulele/guitar.
Grade 7 Band Learning Objectives.
- Demonstrate a clear and sustained sound on a wind instrument (or)- Demonstrate a steady beat and accurate rhythms on a percussion
instrument (or)-

Demonstrate a clear sound on the Guitar and Bass using correct posture,
hand position and fingering technique.
Perform a part in a class Band arrangement with attention to dynamics
and group balance.
Follow the direction of the Conductor with accuracy and sensitivity.
Term 2 2016/17
Kindergarten Learning Objectives
- Demonstrate the ability to sing while playing basic percussion at the
same time.
- Demonstrate the ability to dance and/or move to the beat of the music
during changes in tempo and expression.
- Express personal thoughts, images and feelings through music.
- Demonstrate good audience behavior and performance skills in a concert.
Primary Learning Objectives.
- Recognize and notate basic melodic patterns in a pentatonic scale.
- Demonstrate skills in playing and improvising on an Orff keyboard
instrument, using correct mallet technique and keeping a steady tempo.
- Demonstrate good audience behavior and performance skills in a concert.
Intermediate Learning Objectives.
- Demonstrate a clear C major scale on a Soprano Recorder using correct
fingerings and articulation.
- Demonstrate a minimum of six chords and a clear G major scale on the
ukulele/guitar (one octave).
- Understand the theories behind the five elements of music; Meter, Pitch,
Expression, Rhythm and Timbre.
- Recognize and notate basic rhythmic patterns using Standard Numbers
counting.
- Recognize and notate basic melodic patterns in a pentatonic scale.

- Perform a B flat Concert major scale and a Chromatic scale (one octave)
with accurate fingerings and clear sounds.

instrumental technique.
- Recognize basic rhythmic patterns using Standard Numbers counting and
understand the terms and symbols generally used in Band music.

- Create sounds, patterns or lyrical melodies to accompany stories.
- Contribute musical ideas to support a group arrangement/composition.
- Demonstrate good audience behavior and performance skills in a concert.
Primary Learning Objectives.
- Explore the basic theories behind the five elements of music; Meter, Pitch,
Expression, Rhythm and Timbre.
- Recognize and notate basic rhythmic patterns using Solfege syllable
counting.
- Create sounds, patterns or lyrical melodies to accompany stories.
- Contribute musical ideas to support a group arrangement/composition.
- Demonstrate good audience behavior and performance skills in a concert.
Intermediate Learning Objectives.
- Explore the Recorder Consort (soprano, alto & tenor) and the
transposition of recorder sheet music.
- Demonstrate a minimum of three different strumming/picking patterns
on the ukulele/guitar.
- Contribute musical ideas to support a group arrangement/composition.
- Demonstrate good audience behavior and performance skills in a concert.
Grade 7 Band Learning Objectives.
- Perform three major scales (Bb, Eb & F) with accurate fingerings and
