Care and Maintenance
Sandstone / Quartzite
Most sandstone and quartz composed of quartz and/or feldspar because these are the most common minerals in the
Earth's crust. Like sand, sandstone and quartz may be any color, but the most common colors are tan, brown, yellow,
red, grey, pink, white and black. Since sandstone and quartz beds often form highly visible cliffs and other
topographic features, certain colors of sandstone and quartz have been strongly identified with certain
regions.Composition: Silicate (Quartz, feldspar, mica, iron)
Sandstone and quartzite has been used for domestic construction, pavers and and housewares since prehistoric
times, and continues to be used today.
Hardness: 7 Mohs hardness scale
Outstanding Characteristics: Not acid sensitive
Finish: Textured and natural cleft
General:
Use only care and maintenance products that are specifically designed for natural stone. General purpose cleaners
contain acids, ammonia, chelating agents and abrasives that can discolor, stain, dissolve, or dull the finish of the
stone.
The absorbency of unsealed sandstone and quartzite makes it susceptible to staining, including rust stains caused by
metal objects left in contact with the stones for long periods of time.
Sealing will help keep the surface looking new. It will help to keep moisture out thus preventing efflorescence and iron
oxidization (rust) from occurring. In addition, sealing will prevent oil and water based stains from absorbing into the
surface.
When a food or beverage spill occurs, immediate cleanup is essential to reduce the risk of etching and staining.
Immediate response to spills will also reduce the risk of slip and fall.
New Installation:
Pre-Grout Sealing / Grout Release: Porous stone and tile can be stained by grout during installation. Sealing stone
and tile before grouting will make grout clean up much easier. Apply sealer and wait a minimum of 2 hours before
grouting.
Grout Haze: A grout haze may appear if the excess grout is not entirely removed from the surface during the grout
clean-up process. There are three common types of grout used. Use the following MORE™ Surface Care product to
remove grout haze from the surface. Note: The sooner you get on it - the easier it will be to remove.

Existing Installations:
Restorative cleaning may be required to bring your existing natural stone or tile surface back to looking new. Being
able to identify the problem will help you to choose the right restorative cleaning product.

Surface Protection:
There are several options for protecting the surface.
Natural Look: A penetrating / impregnating sealer forms an invisible barrier which provides protection against the
toughest oil and water-based stains.
Enhanced Look: A penetrating sealer that enhances stone’s natural color, texture, and unique character. At the same
time, the sealer protects against oil and water-based stains.
Glossy Look: A topical sealer that forms a clear and brilliant, high gloss or semi-gloss shine that highlights the natural
color and unique character of the stone or concrete surface. At the same time, the sealer provides excellent
protection against oil and water-based stains.

Daily Maintenance:
Use MORE™ Surface Care Stone and Tile Cleaner to maintain the surface. It’s specifically formulated for cleaning
natural stone and tile surfaces. It safely dissolves dirt and grime and leaves behind a streak free shine. No rinsing is
required. Neutral pH formula will NOT damage stone, ceramic, porcelain, concrete, grout, and glass.
