5TH GRADE SOLAR SYSTEM
L.O. I will describe what is in our
solar system.


Universe has an unknown amount of
galaxies and solar systems
Our Solar System is part of the Milky
Way Galaxy

*Our Solar System has 6 main objects:
1
Sun
 *8 planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter,
Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
 *Moons – revolve around planets
 Meteorites
 Asteroids
 Comets
*(These are listed in order from largest to
smallest)
THE SUN
averaged sized star
 *largest body in our system
 Center of our solar system – all planets orbit
around the sun
 Nuclear Fusion- protons combine to form a
helium nucleus-energy released
 *Mostly composed of (made up of) Hydrogen
and Helium

STARS
Go through a life cycle:
 Nebula(clouds of dust and gases
Protostar
Main-Sequence Star
Red Giant
White
Dwarf
Black Dwarf
 Have Nuclear Fusion- protons combine to form
a helium nucleus-energy released

Sun has a powerful gravitation pull
 *Sun’s gravity is responsible for the orbits of
planets around the sun

