General Director Job Description
The General Director is responsible for the daily operation and the advancement of Chamber
Music Amarillo, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. The General Director works closely with the
Artistic Director; both directors report to the Board of Directors
Responsibilities include but are not limited to management of the following functions of the
organization, which are prioritized as follows:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Development and Fundraising






Co-develop annual fundraising plan and strategies with Artistic Director and
Advancement Committee; oversee implementation of plan
Co-create corporate development strategies with Advancement Committee; oversee
implementation
Develop and maintain relationships with major donors
Manage grant and foundation proposals and relationships
Supervise and support stewardship and recognition events
Manage donor records and appropriate correspondence, ensuring privacy and
confidentiality
2. Marketing and Public Relations
 Oversee development and implementation of annual marketing plan for concert
promotion (season brochures, e-communications, postcards, posters, newsletters) and
for traditional and social media advertising
 Oversee public relation campaigns
 Develop and implement plan for keeping website and social media (i.e. Facebook,
Instagram, etc.) up-to-date
 Act as spokesperson for the organization in the community
 Supervise marketing and communications interns
3. Financial Management



Co-create annual budget with Artistic Director and Finance Committee
Prepare monthly statements for board review
Manage all bookkeeping aspects including payroll, receivables, and accounts payable,
ensuring that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed




Oversee timely completion of annual Form 990 and all annual filings required by
governmental and regulatory authorities
Ensure that the Board of Directors and the organization carry appropriate and adequate
insurance coverage
Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget
Sign all authorized notes, agreements, Letter Agreements, and other instruments made
and entered into on behalf of the organization
4. Concert Operations and Artistic Administration








Work with Artistic Director to form and implement plan of action for each concert,
taking into consideration Video, Audio, and Technical production needs; outreach
activities; mentoring and educational activities
Be available to support the needs of students performers (e.g. Suzuki students) before,
during, and after concerts
Coordinate hospitality aspects of the concert experience, such as hiring caterers, bar
tenders, food servers; oversee presentation of bouquets for sponsors and musicians
Supervise volunteer staff who work the box office or perform other services at concerts
Maintain and coordinate organization calendar: CMA Classical and Jazz Concerts; other
CMA-sponsored activities; and events scheduled at the Fibonacci Space by other
organizations/performers
Oversee and fulfill venue contracts; manage ticket sales and reservations
Prepare and sign Letter Agreements
Ensure that musician travel and lodging needs are arranged
5. Outreach and Education Programs



Work with Artistic Director and Outreach/Education Committee to develop annual plan
for community run-out concerts
Co-develop educational programs with Artistic Director and Outreach/Education
Committee
Oversee volunteers for organization’s education and outreach projects
GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Board Relations





Provide regular correspondence and support materials for Board Meetings
Create and distribute board manual for all members
Plan and oversee orientation of new members
Work with Artistic Director and committees to draft policies and procedures for the
approval of the Board; review annually
Participate in the creation of and maintenance of Strategic Plan
Office Management and Administration



Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization, including
handling phone calls as well as correspondence via email or regular mail
Manage building and office needs
Meet on a regular basis (weekly, if needed) with Artistic Director
Professional Development
 Attend meetings and seminars related to Executive Director position to keep current
with local and national practices/issues
 Maintain membership in a professional organization, such as Chamber Music America
 Attend one chamber music-related conference a year, contingent upon budget
Required Qualifications





4 year collegiate level undergraduate degree or higher, or job experience
commensurate with education
Experience working with business productivity software including QuickBooks, Microsoft
Office, PayPal, and Square. Normal tasks will include mail merge for distribution,
managing bank transactions online, reconciling bank statements, preparing financial
presentations, and other reporting documents
Ability to manage concert production
Excellent communication skills, oral and written
Excellent public relations skills
Preferred Qualifications

All of the above plus professional and resourceful style; the ability to work
independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and
projects, resulting in measurable successes and program growth




Commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board
members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supports
Strong organizational skills

Compensation—$32,000 a year
Vacation—Flexible vacation time; two weeks minimum
