Program Summary: The goal of this symposium is to provide an overview of the rapid developments
changing cardiovascular medicine. For the busy physician’s practice, the program was designed to
provide them with latest information on the advances in the management and treatment of patients
with coronary disease, valvular heart disease, hypertension, cardiac arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, and
heart failure.
Learning Objectives:
This educational event is tailored to meet the following objectives and at the conclusion of this activity,
the participants should be able to:
•Describe the latest interventional cardiology procedures that are available to their patients with aortic
stenosis and coronary artery disease.
•Outline the advancements in electrophysiology and the impact in patient care over the last 40 years.
•Compare and contrast the indications for anticoagulation with atrial fibrillation vs. indications and
contraindications for NOAC use.
•Describe the differences between the different NOAC medications.
•Outline the concerns about MRIs and cardiac devices.
•Introduce the new advances in wireless technologies for cardiac devices as part of routine clinical
practice.
•Identify the clinical indications for cardiac MRI in routine clinical practice.
•Discuss the limitations of the cardiac MRI.
•Describe the role of novel imaging techniques such as computational FFR (CT FFR) play in predicting
myocardial ischemia prior to revascularization in patients presenting with chest pain.
•Define the definition of diastolic heart failure (HFpEF).
•Provide diagnostic tools and treatment options for diastolic heart failure (HFpEF).
•Discuss the clinical implications of the recently published SPRINT Trial.
Format: In addition to formal lectures, case presentations
and faculty-audience interactions with Q&A are
part of the program.
Target Audience: This course is designed for cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, pulmonologists,
cardiac surgeons, internists, family medicine and primary care physicians, nurses, cardiac techs and
other health care professionals involved in caring for patient with cardiovascular disease.
Disclosure: Acknowledgement for all speakers and planners, ie., nothing to disclose or the existence of
relevant financial relationships, will be made at the activity. Conflicts of interest will be identified and
resolved prior to the activity.
Financial Support: This activity is supported by Advocate Medical Group and Advocate Heart Institute.
Exhibitors: The full listing of Exhibitors will be available on the day of the program.
Accreditation and Credit Designation Statements: Advocate Health Care is accredited by the
