Dr: Ekatherina Charvalos is a medical doctor, specialized in biopathology,
clinical and molecular microbiology. She is a professor of microbiology,
molecular biology and research methodology at the Technological Institution
of Athens. She has been detached at the EU Commission DG Research,
Science in Society -Scientific Culture and Gender issues Unit L4 for two years
(2006-2008). She is m arried to Dr George Assonitis and is mother of a unique
child.

Dr Ekatherina Charvalos got s even awards for research on mechanisms of
resistance in enterobacteriaceae and Campylobacter jejuni, mycoplasmas,
and efflux pump.
Accomplished research: Fifteen research projects funded by the EEC-Greek
government (5 as a c o-ordinator), (10, as a participant). Projects focused on:
1. New antifungal agents of controlled release (Amb -PVP, nystatin-PVP or
sorbic acid-PVP), 2. Spread of integrons in nosocomial, non -hospitalised
patients, environmental and veterinary strain, 3. D etection of genital
mycoplasmas and their antibiotic resistance profile (tri -lateral agreement
Greece-France-Serbia), 4. Detection by PCR of M. genitalium in clinical
samples (bi-lateral agreement Greece -Romania). 5. Non -invasive methods
for the detection of pesticides in human hair, One prize (Empeirikion
Institution) for research activities at the University of Geneva.
Dr Ekatherina Charvalos is an Expert at the Ministry of Development for
Medical Microbiology testing, Expert –evaluator 6th framework pr ogramme,
DG Research. FP6 -2003-LIFE SCIENCES HEALTH -I, CRAFT, STREP.
Research for the benefit of the SMEs. DG SANCO (EAHC) Call 2009. Member
of the Hellenic Society of Microbiology, APUA, ( The alliance for the prudent
use of antibiotics) and the American Society for Microbiology.
