The The sun sun By Jessica Clegg Sunny Facts • The sun is this big 1,392,000km, the largest object in the solar system. • The sun is the centre of the solar system, without it life would not exist on Earth. • About three quarters of the sun is hydrogen the rest is helium. • The sun was formed about 4.6 billion years ago, from a cloud of gas and dust called a nebula. • The sun provides most of Earths energy through heat and light. • Leftover gas, dust and rocks formed the nine planets and over 100 moons. • Everything in the solar system orbits the Sun. • The Earth orbits the sun once a year, but it takes over 200 million years to orbit the galaxy.
