Further information about the School is available at www.canberragrammar.org.au THE ROLE The Theatre Manager is responsible for the effective and sustainable management and development of the Performing Arts Centre (PAC), and specifically the safe and artistic operations of the Tim Murray Theatre. For venue management and especially the hire of facilities to external users, the Theatre Manager works closely with the property team and the audio visual staff, working specifically with the School Services Manager and the Property Manager. The Theatre Manager works with the Services Manager to facilitate the use of the Tim Murray Theatre and PAC by external hirers. The Theatre Manager is firstly responsible for the venue leadership and management of the Tim Murray Theatre as an important physical and organisation entity within the PAC. The Theatre Manager Role involves the following areas of responsibility: 1. Leadership and Management of the Tim Murray Theatre 2. Active involvement in Drama Curricular and Co-curricular Programmes in a variety of roles 3. Other school events as requested such as Presentation Night, the Junior School Production and Primary School Christmas Concerts. The role and duties are managed by the Director of Creative and Co-curricular Education. The Theatre Manager plays an important leadership role within the Drama Department, working within both the curricular and co-curricular programmes. The involvement and role in the Drama Department is overseen by the Head of Department. The Theatre Manager is also required to work on School events outside of the Drama Department, such as the Primary School Christmas Concerts and School Presentation Night. Many aspects of this role may require work outside normal hours and on weekends, and involves specific scheduling as arranged with the Director of Creative and Co-curricular Education. The Theatre Manager liaises with staff across the School, sometimes managing productions and events in venues outside of the PAC as requested by the Director of Creative and Co-curricular Education. The Theatre Manager runs a Technical Theatre co-curricular class for students and supports staff in running high quality theatre productions and events, up-skills staff in areas such as stage and production management, lighting, set, props and costumes. The Theatre Manager co-ordinates and trains crew for productions, sometimes taking on roles that cannot be suitably filled by students or other staff. DUTIES Theatre and venue leadership and management of the Performing Arts Centre promotes the PAC and Tim Murray Theatre manages room, equipment and resource bookings liaises with the Property Manager regarding building management and maintenance manages and maintains Production resources facilitates annual maintenance of production equipment and resources coordinates space and storage liaises with the School Services Manager regarding external hirers liaises with external hirers liaises with maintenance team maintains inventory and stock control oversees prop and costume management for the Drama Department set-up and maintains ticketing processes set-up the venue for meetings and events including sound, AV and lighting runs technical requirements for meetings and events in the venue arranges specialist AV support for events and meetings as required plans and manages the budget for the Tim Murray Theatre Page 2 oversees the work health and safety practices including relevant documentation, user manuals and all routine and special maintenance administers venue security and accessibility contributes to the scheduling of arts and drama activities for the Tim Murray Theatre works with the Head of Drama to ensure the smooth operation of classes and School events in the venue assists users with writing risk assessments ensures appropriate staffing levels and allocation of duty managers hands over to/from duty managers Production management and technical direction of specified School productions and events runs events and productions provides technical support on production design undertakes creative and design roles as tasked provides support for or running bump-ins and bump-outs writes and manages/advises on production budgets as required writes and manages/advises on production schedules as required produces risk assessment and risk management as appropriate develops production management and other production and technical skills for other staff trains students and/or staff with the specific skills required for specific productions Commitment to excellence in drama education participates in strategic and development planning and projects supports the Heads of Departments with the development of arts and drama activities supports interstate and international drama tours ensures the PAC is prepared for all use GENERAL RESPONSIBILI TIES leads and manages the PAC, and especially the Tim Murray Theatre provides production management and technical management for specified School drama and theatre productions provides support to other School facilities and drama activities as directed other duties as required SELECTION SPECIFICATIONS As a staff member, the Theatre Manager will be expected to: support and promote the School’s aims and objectives be committed to professional excellence and to ongoing professional learning comply with the School’s Code of Conduct and with the School’s policy and regulatory requirements respect and uphold the School’s Anglican values and ethos, while also respecting people of all backgrounds and faiths within the School community Page 3 safeguard and promote the welfare of students positively collaborate with all colleagues communicate effectively and have an ability to engage warmly, openly and tactfully with all members of the School community, including staff, students and parents use a clear, concise, accurate and personable writing and speaking style use excellent judgement and discretion with which to handle sensitive and personal information use an organised and systematic approach alongside an impeccable attention to detail prioritise effectively and seek assistance when necessary maintain strong technical theatre skills and links with the professional industry to ensure safe and artistic operations of the Tim Murray Theatre. TERMS AND CONDITIONS The role is a temporary, fulltime placement to cover maternity leave. All employees of the School must be eligible to work with children in accordance with ACT Working with Vulnerable People checks, and all teachers at the School must have teacher registration, provisional registration or a permit to teach issued by the ACT Teacher Quality Institute prior to starting their employment. Canberra Grammar School is a respondent to the Independent Schools ACT Standards Model (Support & Operational Staff) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2012 - 2016.
