Theatre Manager
GRADE:
AS17 – AS21 (Truro School Support Staff Scale)
REPORTING TO:
Director of Drama
_________________________________________________________________________
ROLE OVERVIEW
The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the roles detailed below. While the majority
of the hours worked will be regular, working hours will of necessity be flexible, including some
evening and weekend work, with the smooth running of the school’s programme of drama,
talks, assemblies and co-curricular activities being the priority. Within these parameters there
is room for a degree of self-management, as arranged with the Director of Drama, although
this arrangement will be subject to regular review. Hours worked for professional shows will
be remunerated as paid overtime (only where approved in advance in accordance with the
school policy), rather than contributing to time off in lieu.
KEY FUNCTIONS
 Managing the bookings of the Burrell Theatre, for all internal and external events. This
includes, but is not limited to, all bookings for school productions, internal school use,
lessons, rehearsals and external bookings.
 Ensuring that all technical support required for these bookings is discussed and agreed
with the Technical Services Manager.
 Providing Front of House service to all Burrell Theatre events that require it, including
sourcing, training and managing Front of House staff.
 Providing support to the Drama department for both curricular and co-curricular productions
and performances, specifically in sourcing props, costumes and stage management.
 Providing administration support for the Drama department, both for curricular
requirements and for external tours and projects, for example, the Edinburgh Festival
performance.
 Attendance at Lettings and Calendar meetings, checking draft calendar against the Theatre
calendar, before it goes to print
 Developing the Burrell Theatre as a receiving theatre, in conjunction with the Director of
Drama, to support the provision of drama at the school. This includes managing contracts
for professional theatre companies and performers.
 Liaising directly with external hirers and consulting with the Events Manager regarding
external lettings and productions.
 Providing financial breakdowns to the Finance department for all professional theatre
events.
 Working with the Marketing Manager to market school and professional productions
internally and externally, through school websites, social media, publications and liaison
with local press and media.
 Maintaining a photographic and video record of events in the Burrell Theatre, in conjunction
with the Marketing Manager and Technical Services Manager.
 Ensuring that the foyer remains clean, tidy and welcoming through the displays and
presentation of the space.
 Ensuring the backstage area remains clean, tidy and able to be used as a teaching
resource, in conjunction with the Technical Services Manager.
 Managing box office for ticketed events.
 General H&S matters in the Burrell Theatre for all internal and external events, in
