Drama/Theatre Teacher
Job Description
This position will instruct middle and upper school students in grades 6 through Grade 12
in class time, performances, and special events. This position is full-time and includes
extra-curricular responsibilities through the entire school year. The regular hours would be
10:30am-6:30pm with additional time as needed for rehearsals and performances.
Qualifications








Agreement with ACA’s statement of faith
Membership in a church that embraces the historic Christian faith
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Education and/or Extensive experience in
the field.
Willingness to work as part of a team in both leadership and supporting roles
Have a strong Christian philosophy of fine arts and theatre
Plus: Classroom experience
Plus: Choreography background
Plus: Experience running technical aspects (lights, sound)
Instructional Responsibilities









Develop a program of drama instruction in the middle school grades (6-8th Grade) by
following the curriculum and using the resources available at each grade level.
Teach 6th grade drama on a quarterly basis.
Teach 7th-8th grade drama on a semester basis
Lead, plan, organize, and direct the upper school fall drama production in
cooperation with the Fine Arts Director and supporting staff.
Assist/Direct the middle school musical as assigned by the Fine Arts Director.
Assist/Direct the upper school musical as assigned by the Fine Arts Director.
Advise and assist lower school productions as they relate to drama.
Introduce and develop student knowledge of theatre terminology and practice.
Work with Fine Arts Director to develop a continuity of drama instruction K4-12.
Organization/Vision/Leadership Responsibilities








Plan and execute a scope and sequence of instruction through the use of daily,
weekly, and unit lesson plans.
Work with the Fine Arts Director to plan and execute productions.
Establish a classroom culture of dramatic learning.
Involve ACA students in dramatic arts activities in and out of school.
Create a passion within students for theatre and drama.
Promote fine arts participation among students, both in and out of school.
Create extra-curricular drama/theatre opportunities as available.
Develop and promote a vision of the drama/theatre program that includes curricular
and extra-curricular components as part of the overall Fine Arts Department plan
with the Fine Arts Director
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED



Oversee the management and organization of the stage and supporting areas,
including props, costumes, set pieces, and technical hardware.
Provide reasonable supervision of students at the end of all extra-curricular
rehearsals
Other duties related to the Fine Arts program as given by the Fine Arts Director.
Relationships



Work cheerfully and productively under the leadership of the Fine Arts Director,
level principles, and alongside other Fine Arts staff.
Encourage and develop professional and harmonious relationships with theatre
support staff in lighting, sound, set, costume, and other areas.
Exercise all necessary planning for the use of the facilities for drama, theatre and cocurricular events with the Campus Manager.
