JOB DESCRIPTION Drama Assistant Department Drama Department Line Manager Director of Drama, Colet Court Role This appointment is responsible for general day to day support in the Colet Court Drama Department; assisting the Director of Drama (DoD) in curriculum Drama lessons, extracurricular rehearsals; and helping the Theatre Technician with pre-production set building, prop sourcing, light and sound design, and general production administration. Teaching Support (in lessons) Run drama games, exercises and small-group devised pieces with L1st – 5th Yr (Year 3 – Year 8) with the potential to take a lead with certain classes Assist, where required, the Theatre Technician Assist, where required, the running of lunchtime Drama Clubs Co-lead the St Paul’s Youth Theatre (SPYT) with DoD. Production Support Take responsibility of sourcing / making Props and Costumes Assist DoD with rehearsals, and run some rehearsals on your own Assist Theatre Technician with rigging of lights & sound Assist Designer/Technician with set construction Assist parents, when required, with costume sourcing Assist School Office with all ticketing and advance bookings for all main shows Assist with the Design and publishing of all production advertising and programmes Administration Take responsibility for Drama Department notice board Update Drama Department pages on school intranet with rehearsal calls, ticket information, DVD bookings etc. General Maintain a general tidiness in the Hall, and on stage, so that it is ready for School Assembly each morning Keep the costume cupboard well ordered Assist, within reason, with ‘areas of production’ for class assemblies (i.e. helping class tutors find set, props, costume etc.) in liaison with the Technician Join in with school life, assisting on Open Days and Entrance Exams Assist with the management and delivery of the Arts Award programme All staff have a responsibility and duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils. Staff must be aware of the systems within the School which support safeguarding and must act in accordance with the School’s Safeguarding & Child Protection policy and Code of Conduct. Staff will receive appropriate child protection training which is regularly updated. Skills Required Applicants should be IT literate (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) familiar with databases, ideally good at Photoshop, and enjoy working in a thriving, busy atmosphere. An experience of working with children is essential. Training First Aid Theatre Workshop tool use Arts Award training (desirable) Hours of work This post is for 10 months (from the beginning of September to the end of June); however the position may be offered for another 10 months for the following academic year 40 hours per week, e.g. 8:30 am to 4:30 pm usually Monday to Friday (adjustable to take account of rehearsals and some weekend work required) during term time. SPYT sessions currently run between 4:30pm and 7:30pm on Wednesdays. Some evening and weekend work is needed to cover events so a flexible approach is required. You will be required to keep a log of your hours. Holidays 20 working days to be taken during the school holidays, plus 8 public/bank holidays plus other discretionary days Accommodation During your employment with the school you may occupy a room providing: the use of the room is purely for your convenience and implies no contractual obligation on behalf of the School to provide accommodation; you must not let other people occupy the room or have access to the building when you are absent, i.e. you must not give your keys to anyone else or leave the room open; the School may withdraw this offer at any time; whilst using School Accommodation you comply with all the normal rules and regulations published by the School. Salary c.£8,500pa plus accommodation and meals (an additional responsibility allowance is applicable when running SPYT sessions). Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, are provided on site during term time.
