Ken and his wife Lorraine were awarded Life Memberships to MATS at the 2013 AGM in March. Ken’s first show for MATS was in the chorus of OKLAHOMA in 1959 followed by six more shows and a ballet (!) until SHOWBOAT in 1966. Moving to Martinborough, distance made it impossible to do shows for a few years, but he came back in 1986 to the chorus of OLDE TYME MUSIC HALL and with that, commenced an amazing record of participating in 45 out of the next 51 productions between 1987 and 2011 either on stage, backstage, front of house or cast catering. He also served on the General Committee from 1992-‐2009. Kens dedicated service to MATS is praiseworthy and his cheery and caring persona is sadly missed. Our Society extends its deepest sympathy to Lorraine and family and our thanks for sharing Ken with us for so many years. Kevin Rush Kevin passed away in Palmerston North. Kevin will be fondly remembered by those of us who worked with him for his great sense of humour and lovely personality. A Director of many shows in Wellington, the Kapiti Coast and Palmerston North, he also directed four shows for MATS: 1995 – Joseph 2003 – Robin Hood 2003 – Ma Baker’s Tonic 2005 – Oklahoma Julie Blumsky A much loved Director for MATS in the 1967-‐1971 era, Julie passed away recently. She directed the following shows for us at the Regent Theatre: 1967 – Calamity Jane 1968 – Sound of Music 1969 – Can Can 1970 – Camelot 1971 – Oklahoma (at which our special guests were the British Lions Rugby Team) Sharon Stevens-‐Cottle remembers with fondness, that Julie used to stay with her family when she was directing shows here. Working Bees There has been a hive of activity at the theatre and the workshop over several recent weekends with a band of dedicated people who have given many hours of their time to help spring clean our home. Projects achieved include: • Shed fully cleaned out to make way for set building area and plans to put in a props area in the near future. • Theatre given a thorough clean front to back. • Donated curtains hung in old Green Room (now meeting room). • Carpet lifted and donated carpet being laid in dressing rooms. • Stage curtains re hung and the area totally cleaned and pre set for hire. Can you please help us by: •

Donating any carpet that could be used to replace that in the corridors. Donating any curtain tracks with brackets and sliders. Lending two surfboards without fins for our production of Encore (props). If you can say yes to any of the above please phone Sharon Stevens-Cottle (06) 378-7408 Grant Money Received We have been given a grant from Lands Trust Masterton, to be used for an engineer’s report of the theatre buildings. This follows on from the feasibility study carried out last year, which discussed possible plans looking forward, for theatre in our community. The report will enable the Committee to engage specialty advisors to assist with the further development of a forward plan for the theatres future development. ENCORE Our next fabulous show!
