Geva Theatre Center is delighted to host Screen Plays – Hollywood’s Golden Age on Stage, and their production of Vivien Leigh: The Last Press Conference by Marcy Lafferty, directed by David Henderson, from June 4 to June 7 in the Fielding Nextstage at Geva Theatre Center. Vivien Leigh: The Last Press Conference is the story of a woman, blessed with all the Gods could bestow. Brave and beautiful, a stage actress who owned the title role in the most popular motion picture ever made. An English rose who garnered two Academy Awards for her portrayal of Southern heroines. Mistress, then wife of the enamored Laurence Olivier, the man who never understood her greatest battles with depression. For the bounty of her legacy eclipses the horrors of the madness that caused her such shame. Actress Marcy Lafferty wrote Vivien Leigh: The Last Press Conference in 2004 as a one-woman vehicle for herself and successfully performed this play at venues around the country. Her compelling portrait of the aging actress, recalling incredible artistic highs, but beset by illness, has been produced at theatres around the globe to great acclaim. Rochester actress Marcy J. Savastano portrays Vivien Leigh and the play is directed by David Henderson. Costumes were designed by Rochester-based fashion designer Zebulon Hounslea (“Downton Abbey”).
