Grew up around the military, because his father
was a miltiary leader
When Caligula was young his father had died from
a suspicious poisoning.
Due to his fathers death, his mother took action by
acting as the father and mother of the house,
which caused her to be very powerful and strict.
Therefore, he was raised to be very tough and
powerful.
The rise to power
When Caligula first
came to power he was
strongly admired.
People created
statues to show how
they praised him as a
leader.
After the death of
Tiberius he became
the Emperor of the
Roman Empire.
Strengths
He formed a strong army because of his strict
ruling.
He helped the army become stronger because of
his mother and father.
He freed citizens that were unfairly imprisoned
by Tiberius.
He helped poor people pay taxes.
He eliminated unpopular taxes.
He used his money on building projects, religious
temples and theaters.
Weaknesses
He forced parents to watch the executions of their children.
He eliminated his political rivals.
He drained the Roman treasury.
He rolled around in piles of money and drank precious pearls
dissolved in vinegar.
He was obsessed with his horse, which caused him to be isolated
from the Roman people.
Caligula argued with the senators, and executed them as well.
He wanted to invade Britain, but his plan never was completed
due to his lack of bravery.
Caligula disliked the people of Jewish religion.
Effect on the Roman Empire
Caligula had a negative effect on the
Roman Empire.
He hurt the economy and the government
by using all of the money that he was given
on himself.
It turned out that Caligula was a crazy man
who lead the Roman Empire to a downfall.
With Caligula’s crazy mind, the Roman
Empire had no leader.
Downfall and death
The citizens of Rome
started to hate him.
They created a secret
plan to get rid of him.
He was attacked by a
group of guardsmen
from the Praetorian
Guard.
Caligula was stabbed
to death 30 times, just
like Julius Caesar.
After his death the
citizens destroyed all
of his statues that
were in Rome.
Family relationships
Along with the murder of Caligula, his wife
and daughter were murdered as well.
Caligula wasn’t very loyal to his wife,
because he had affairs with allies wives.
Rummored to have an improper
relationship with his sisters.

Caligula is not his real name.
His real name is Gaius Caesar.
He was given this name
because Caligula means
“Little boots” or “Booties”
and he used to wear boots.
He built a house for his horse
that was made out of ivory.
He was the first Roman
Emperor to be assasinsted.
