Affiliate marketing is an online advertising method where advertiser get customers to
visit their site by allowing publishers to include links on the publishing web page
which sends the customer to theadvertisers web page. The publisher typically gets
paid only when the customer makes a purchase or completes an information form
(cost per action). The publisher usually requests of the advertiser permission to
include the links to the advertisers’ site.
Affiliate Network
When an advertiser doesn't have the technology in place to handle working with a
publisher to do affiliate marketing then can outsource the administration of the
interaction be advertiser and publisher to an affiliate network. The affiliate network
does all the tracking, accounting, and payment of commissions. Some of the top

Joe, Amy and Trevor were enjoying their lunch at Jimmy Johns so much that they
almost forgot about their topic of discussion today. They wanted to understand
affiliate marketing and drop shipping better so they could decide on a business model
and ultimately a business idea. After a little research on the two topics, the consensus
was to take one of their product ideas and do some analysis so they could decide
whether their business would be better served to sell the product with affiliate
marketing or drop shipping. Amy and Trevor both played the acoustic guitar and had
suggested that acoustic guitars as one of the product ideas.
They were to do some research on both methods for selling guitars then make a
recommendation on which method their little online business would choose if they
sold guitars.
Preparation:
1. You should be able to compare affiliate marketing to drop shipping for selling
guitars. You comparison should include a number of criteria that you used in making this
decision. A well prepared student should have a spreadsheet with the alternatives and
criteria on it.
2. For the method that you recommend, you should be able to tell which company you
would use and the process of signing up with that company.
