Motor run capacitors are lightweight, safe and compact, making them great alternatives
to traditional batteries for storing energy. That is, if you purchase the right one. At

testing equipment, it is easy to check whether motor run capacitors need to be replaced,
although sometimes you can tell just by looking at them. The capacitor will typically
bulge or burst open. On testing equipment, there will be a reading of 5% or less.
Handling Capacitors
It is important to handle motor run capacitors with care, as they can carry a charge long
after shutting down power to a circuit. Such a charge can cause serious or fatal injury or
damage your equipment. Be sure to follow any service procedures for disabling a
capacitor. You may wish to purchase a digital voltmeter to monitor capacitance levels.
