Absolute location – position on the globe. Usually found by latitude and longitude. Latitude – imaginary lines that run parallel to the equator and measure north and south. Longitude – imaginary lines that run parallel to the prime meridian and measure east and west. Relative Location – position of a place in relation to another place. Example – New Orleans is South of Memphis. Latitude and Longitude Place – What is it made of? 1. 1. Physical characteristics such as climate, terrain, landforms, etc. Human characteristics How many people live there, what language do they speak? Regions – How is it similar to another place? Region - a group of places with at least one common characteristic. It can be either a physical or human characteristic.
