basilar membranes to vibrate . This stimulates the sensory cells of organ of corti , to send nerve
impulses to the brain.

14) The dicotyledenous plant grow by their apical shoot meristems while grasses possess intercalary
meristems .
Certain auxins when applied in excess can damage the shoot apical meristems but they do not cause
any damage to the intercalary meristems .Thus , when 2,4-D is sprayed on lawns , only the dicots get
killed and lawns become free from weeds.(3 marks)
