SESSION ENDING EXAMINATION 2015-16
CLASS XI
MARKING SCHEME
SUBJECT : BIOLOGY
Max marks:70
1) trachea(1 mark)
2) Throid gland / throat. (1 mark)
3) Transfer of an amino group from an alpha amino acid to alpha ketoacid . (1 mark)
4) Sickle cell anaemia. (1 mark)
5) Vitamin K(1 mark)
6) Respiration is a catabolic process and at the same time it is anabolic too. Some of the organic acids
produced during Kreb’s cycle are also used in amino acid synthesis and some other growth processes.
Therefore , it can be called as amphibolic process.1+1marks)
7) The GO PHASE is a period in cell cycle where cells exist in quiescent state. (1 mark)
Cell neither dividing nor preparing to divide or as a distinct quiescent stage which occurs outside the
cell cycle. (1 mark)
8) The royal boptanical gardens, KEW in UK. (1 mark)
Botanical gardens in india(a)Indian botanical garden , west bengal
(b)Government botanical garden , Tamil nadu
(c ) Lloyd’s botanical garden , West Bengal. (1 mark)
9) bulliform cells are a few enlarged leaf epidermal cells in some monocots . (1 mark)
they help in rolling and unrolling of leaves by losing turgidity , it reduces transpiration under intense
sunlight. (1 mark)
10) ) – hydrolysis of starch – amylases(1 mark)
- digestion of fat – lipases(1 mark)
- salivary gland – parotid(1 mark)
11) Sound waves enter the outer ear and travel through the external auditory canal until they reach the
tympanic membrane , causing the membrane and attached chain os auditory ossicles to vibrate . The
motion of the stapes against the oval window sets up the waves in the fluids of the cochlea , causing the
basilar membranes to vibrate . This stimulates the sensory cells of organ of corti , to send nerve
impulses to the brain.
12)refer NCERT UNIT 1(3marks)
13) ) (a) chondriocytes : cartilage cells. Capable of limited mitotic divisions , secrete ground substances
of cartilage. (1 mark)
(b) axons: long , slender projection of nerve cell or neuron , conduct electrical impulses away from
neuron cell body . (1 mark)
(c ) ciliated epithelium: sometimes cubical or columnar epithelial cells possess hair like outgrowth , cilia
or their free surfaces . These are ciliated epithelium. Movement of cilia for motion of substances inside
them. (1 mark)
14) The dicotyledenous plant grow by their apical shoot meristems while grasses possess intercalary
meristems .
Certain auxins when applied in excess can damage the shoot apical meristems but they do not cause
any damage to the intercalary meristems .Thus , when 2,4-D is sprayed on lawns , only the dicots get
killed and lawns become free from weeds.(3 marks)
15)REFER unit 3 NCERT
16) (a) pituitary(1 mark)
(b) gonads(1 mark)
( c) skin(1 mark)
17) (1 mark for each correct difference))
Dicot stem
1) collenchymatous
2)cortex , endodermis , pericycle , and pith present
3)vascular bundles are conjoint , collateral ,
endarch and open
4) bundle sheath present
5) secondary growth present
Monocot stem
1) sclerenchymatous
2)ground tissue in place of cortex , endodermis ,
pericycle and pith.
3)vascular bundles are collateral, closed.
4) bundle sheath absent
5) secondary growth absent.
18) There are two important steps namely reductive aminationand transamination . Refer ch . Mineral
Nutrition.( 1+1+1)
19) )Mesosomes are special membraneous structures formed by the extensions of the plasma
membranes into the prokaryotic cells. (1 mark)
They help in formation of cell wall. DNA replication and distribution of daughter cells. (1 mark)
They help in respiration and secretion process to increase surface area of plasma membrane. (1 mark)
20)refer NCERT CH.
21)(i)Blood platelets are minute , irregular shaped , disc like cytoplasmic bodies found in blood plasma.
(1 mark)
(ii)Dengue fever may lead to low count of platelets, which are required for blood clotting . The principal
function of platelets is to prevent blood clotting. (1+1 marks)
(iii)Doctor wanted to prevent the complication of the diseases. (1 mark)
22) ) (i) Mitochondria (ii) chloroplast . (1 mark)
Any two characteristics each. (1 makr each)
Any two functions each. (1 mark each)
23)One difference each.(1 mark each difference)
24)Explanation about –(5 marks)
(a) A connection between digestive and nervous system during encounter with a stimulus.
(b) connection between excretory and nervous system while responding the stimulus.etc.
25) Any two motivational procedures.(5)
FOR EXAMPLE –
By guidance and councelling about to balance between physiology and psychological responses in such a
advance adverse conditions.
