Goal 2 Assist students in overcoming deficiences and acquiring skills fundamental to further academic and career achievement. Endofterm assessment from Spring 2014 reveals that only 46% of traditional Initial students and 38% of online students were able to correctly identify the early founders Assessment: of Sociology and their contributions to the development of Sociology as a scientific discipline. Scheduled Completion Spring 2015 Date: Budget Amount: 0 These founders are covered in the material for test one. After the first test, students who missed the specific questions regarding these founders will be given an additional activity. IE: Students will be given an index card with the following Action Plan: instructions: Write three significant contributions of each founder on the front of the card. Also, they will be asked to apply each founder's theory to a modernday example on the back of the card. These cards will be reviewed by the instructor for a quiz grade. Outcome will be measured by a multiple choice departmental assessment at the end Outcome of the semester. It is up to the individual instructors whether or not to include this in Measure: semester grade calculations. OVERALL RESULTS End of semester results for fall determined that only 36% of students could correctly Results: identify the early founders. The results for spring semester show a similar deficit; only 41% of the students correctly identified the early founders in Sociology. In an effort to encourage optimal student performance, the multiple choice assessment will be used as a portion of the class average. DISTANCE EDUCATION RESULTS (if applicable to outcome) Results: The online student results were very low in the fall semester with 19% of the students correctly identifying the founders. In the spring semester, the assessment results showed 25% of students could correctly identify the founders. In an effort to encourage optimal student performance, the assessment quiz will be used as a portion of the class average. As it is used now, the students do not receive any credit for completing the assessment quiz, therefore, they do not do their best. Program The goal was not met. But, there was a 6% improvement from the fall to the spring Improvement: semester. Use of Results: No Supporting File Outcome Number: Year: Outcome Type: 2 20142015 Program Operational Outcome Outcome: In the Spring of 2014, a new endofterm assessment was developed. After administering and reviewing the 20question, multiple choice assessment, it was found that two questions, #14 and #20, needed to be revised for the Fall Semester 2014 endofterm assessment. Institutional Goal: Goal 2 Assist students in overcoming deficiences and acquiring skills fundamental to further academic and career achievement. Initial Errors were found in the test after it was administered. One was poorly worded, and Assessment: one had two correct answers. Scheduled Completion Fall 2014 Date: Budget Amount: 0 Action Plan: The two questions will be rewritten and the new questions will be reviewed by SOC instructors in the Department before they are added to the exam. Outcome The new questions will be added to the endofsemester exam. Measure: OVERALL RESULTS The test was updated and distributed to instructors, and the students were assessed Results: at the end of Fall Semester 2014. Poorly worded question #14 yielded correct responses of 60% in the spring of 2014. However, with the Program Improvement: rewording, 75% of the respondents answered correctly in the fall of 2014 and 84% answered correctly in the spring of 2015. Question #20 had two correct answers previously so the results in spring of 2014 were null. But, results showed correct responses of 81% in the fall of 2014 and 70% for the spring of 2015. DISTANCE EDUCATION RESULTS (if applicable to outcome) Results: Use of Results: The same test was updated for the online class as well. The test will be given to the online students in the spring of 2015. The online SOC assessment is now written correctly. Results showed correct responses of 75% in the fall 2014 and 80% in the spring of 2015 for question #14, the Program poorly worded question, which yielded correct responses of 62% in the spring of Improvement: 2014. Question #20 did not have results for spring of 2014 as it had two correct answers; but in the fall of 2014, 64% answered correctly and in the spring of 2015, 76% answered the question correctly. Throughout the semester, each of the three theories will be reviewed periodically in conjunction with new test material. The online instructor will assign the theories as part of the reading material for test 1, and an exam will be given. In every unit of material from the text book, the application of these three theories are covered. Outcome will be measured by an endofsemester multiple choice assessment.
