Course Introduction 070125803 Information Modeling and Database System I-MIT Tuesday 13.00-16.00 at 3A13 Data storage structure, data level, information modeling, concepts of database systems, database system architecture, database design and case studies, middleware, relational algebra and concept of Structured Query Language (SQL), query processing, transaction management, database integrity and security, database management should demonstrate their abilities to apply the knowledge to effectively solve database related problems. Students will also research published works in data modeling and database technology. Students should: Understand the main concepts of database technologies Be able to design database and understand the application of normalization Be aware of state-of-the-art database technologies Be able to apply knowledge to effectively solve database related problems. 1 17 Jan 2 24 Jan 3 31 Jan 4 7 Feb 5 14 Feb 6 21 Feb 7 28 Feb 8 7 March Lecture 1: Course Introduction Lecture 2: Concepts of Database Systems and Architecture Lecture 3: Information Modeling Lecture 4: Relational Model Lecture 5: Database Design and Case Studies Lecture 6: Data Storage Structure and SQL No Lecture Midterm Examination - Lecture -Q&A - Lecture - Group discussion - Lecture - Group discussion - Lecture - Group discussion - Lecture - Group discussion - Lecture - Group discussion 9 14 March 10 21 March 11 28 March Lecture 7: Query Processing Lecture 9: Database Integrity, Security, and Management - Lecture - Group discussion - Lecture - Group discussion - Lecture - Group discussion 12 4 April Lecture 10: Distributed Database and Middleware - Lecture - Group discussion 13 11 April 14 18 April 15 25 April 16 2 May Songkran’s weekend (No lecture) Lecture 8: Transaction Management Paper report presentation - Student presentation Final Revision -Q&A Final Examination Kanchana Viriyapant, PhD PhD in Information Technology , 2017 IT,KMUTNB Master of Information Technology, 2005 IT,KMUTNB Bachelor of Science (Computer Science), 2000 University of The Thai Chamber of Commerce PhD Topic: Scheduling Parameter Sweep Workflow in Cloud Environment Upcoming project Use real scientific workflow for scheduling algorithm Workflows Scientific / Cloud workflow Cloud workflow scheduling Data Mining/ Bioinformatics Counseling Hour Kanchana: 3A12 (third floor), Monday afternoon Email: [email protected] Web page: http://www2.it.kmutnb.ac.th/teacher/kanchana/ Lectures will be available here Homework will post here The project description will be here Midterm Examination Final Examination Database Design Assignment Paper Report 25% 30% 20% 25% Individual assignment Detail to be announced, to be submitted before presentation Mark distribution (20%) Entity-relationship model Table mapping Normalization 8% 7% 5% Individual Assignment Select one of the following topics Unstructured Database (XML Database) NoSQL Cloud Computing or etc. Approximately 1,000 words At least 8 reliable sources, properly cited and listed at the end of the paper Your report should at least cover What it is and why should we use it?
