A Massive Epidemic
Look at the numbers in the US alone…
• According to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE)
27 million suffer from a thyroid condition
• Out of the 27 million, only half have been diagnosed, therefore 50% have
symptoms and do not know what is wrong
• Some sources say up to 90% of women age 40 and up have subclinical
hypothyroid (symptomatic but undiagnosed)
• A leading thyroid doctor, Dr. Broada Barnes MD of the Broada Barnes
Institute says its 90% of American, men and women. WOW!
• According to the AACE, thyroid conditions are the #1 endocrine disorder in
the U.S (compared to diabetes at 16 million)
• 80% of thyroid conditions are in women and 80% of that percentage have
hypothyroidism (80% of that are autoimmune)

Collateral Damage
Thyroid disease predisposes you to many other degenerative
diseases…
• Plays a major role in obesity and diseases associated with weight gain
• Older women with subclinical hypothyroidism have a 2x likelihood of
having a blocked aorta or to have had a heart attack
• According to the National Thyroid Institute, 50% of depression could be
caused by an undiagnosed thyroid condition
• Studies show autoimmune types of hypothyroid (Hashimsoto’s), can
lead to psychosis, seizures, dementia and mood changes
• Other hormone problems associated with perimenopause and
menopause, including the symptoms that plague so many, are due to
thyroid disease

Could This Be My Problem?
The majority of these symptoms start long before a blood test
would come back positive for hypothyroid…

What’s The Solution?
Simple: get rid of the cause…
Problem! What’s the cause?
That depends on who you talk to!!!
-Your doctor will tell you its mostly genetic, and there is not much you can do
except take thyroid replacement hormone drugs for the rest of your life
(somebody is making a lot of money)
-The sad part is, most people still have the symptoms that their doctor now
says is not related to their thyroid
-Truth is, there is a cause, and when you remove it the body can heal itself
-Fact is, OUR system for treating thyroid conditions works (we get rid of the
true cause and the body does the healing)
The best part is your unexplainable symptoms go away!!!

Exposing a Lie
If you believe the lies you won’t see the TRUTH…
Myth: Thyroid replacement hormone such as Synthroid (T4),
Levoxyl (T4) and others, are your only answer…
Truth…
• 80% of the time, thyroid hormone does nothing to relieve your symptoms,
let alone fix your condition
• 80-90% of hypothyroid is autoimmune related (Hashimoto’s), and will not
respond to synthetic thyroid hormones such as Synthroid and other drugs
• Most doctors do not check for autoimmune disease for the thyroid,
because their treatment is the same (synthetic hormones)

Hashimoto’s Disease and Hypothyroidism”, Morgan James Publishing, February 2010

Exposing a Lie
Myths on “treating the labs and not the patient” continued…
Truth…
• Most doctors do not run the correct test to identify the autoimmune type
(Hashimoto’s) that represents 80-90% of hypothyroid
• Most doctors evaluate your condition solely on the “gold standard” TSH
• NO studies have been published demonstrating that you have healthy
thyroid function when your TSH is within normal range
• Not to mention the ranges they use for normal tests are based on a thyroid
epidemic, and not the optimal ranges that we use in our clinic
• Published studies say TSH values greater than 2 can indicate health
problems, even autoimmune thyroiditis (Lab Normal .5 – 5.5)
(Our Normal .35 – 2.0)

Exposing a Lie
Myth: Your blood work is fine therefore you are fine…
Truth…
• Before 1971 it was standard practice to evaluate the patient’s thyroid
condition based on how they felt; today unfortunately, we are “treating the
labs and not the patient” Jonathan V. Wright, MD
• By the time your blood work shows a positive test, you have most likely
been having symptoms for 10-20 years at least (subclinical)
• Recall that 50% of the 27 million sufferers go undiagnosed, making this
the most under diagnosed condition on the planet
• Other sources say it could be as high as 90% of women age 40 and up
suffer from subclinical hypothyroidism (some say 90% of America)

Quick Summery
In summary: why you don’t feel well even though your blood
work is normal…
1. You may be suffering from the autoimmune type of hypothyroid
(Hashimoto’s) in which you will be told that “your blood work is fine and
so are you,” or you will be put on replacement hormone that doesn’t
work for this condition. Ether way you still feel horrible
2. You are thyroid hormone resistant (similar to a Type 2 Diabetic),
meaning your cells can’t get the signal from the hormone, therefore, like
Type 2 Diabetes you can have normal blood levels of the hormone but
the cell can’t use it because the receptors are blunted
3. You can’t determine thyroid function by TSH levels, yet this is exactly
what doctors do (T4 thyroid hormone may not be converting to the
active hormone T3 and TSH level would be normal)
© 2011 Revelation Health LLC
Exposing a Lie
Myth: The thyroid gland is the only problem…
Truth…
• Most thyroid conditions are similar to other hormone conditions like type 2
diabetes; the real problem is not the pancreas or the thyroid gland, but
the hormone receptors on the cell it’s signaling
• Recall also that T4 must be converted to the active hormone T3 (T3 is
what signals the cell), however, the conversion that takes place in the
liver (not the thyroid gland) oftentimes is hindered. (once again typical
blood results will look normal, and you would still feel bad)
Note: Our clinic evaluates 2 untypical blood tests that can determine if this is
a problem. Reverse T3 and serum selenium
© 2011 Revelation Health LLC
Exposing a Lie
Myths on the thyroid gland being the only problem continued…
Truth…
• Contrary to what your doctor may believe, your thyroid works in synergy
with the adrenal glands, pituitary, pancreas and even the liver, and
therefore, must be treated in synergy (the body must be treated as a whole,
not separate parts)
• Even poor digestion plays a role. Food intolerances can cause proteins
to bind to the thyroid receptors and block the hormone and cause
autoimmune hypothyroidism (you may need this test)

The Solution
Remember get to the cause…
2 causes need addressed to get well
1. Iodine deficiency
2. Cellular inflammation
Note: Both need addressed in any successful program
© 2011 Revelation Health LLC
Iodine Deficiency
Iodine deficiency alone is the cause of approximately 20% of all
hypothyroid cases…
• Iodine is the most deficient trace mineral in the world (1/3 of the planet is
deficient)
• According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys from
1974 to 1994 urinary iodine level have decreased 50% in the U.S
• Populations with the lowest iodine levels have the highest incidence of
thyroid problems and other iodine related diseases
• The good news is others studies have shown that as iodine intake
increased, both thyroid conditions, goiters, stomach and breast
cancer decreased
Golkowski F, Szybinski Z, Rachtan J, et al. Iodine prophylaxis—the protective factors against stomach cancer in iodine deficent areas. Eur J Nutr. 2007
Aug;46(5):251-6.

Iodine’s Role

Iodine Deficiency
Studies reveal iodine deficiency as a cause to many other conditions …
• A strong link to cancers of the Thyroid, breast, ovaries, uterus, prostate
• The World Health Organization (WHO) claims that iodine deficiency is the
worlds greatest single cause of preventable mental retardation
• Studies confirm Iodine deficiency as the number one cause of
underfunctioning intellect (loss in IQ scores up to 12.45 points)
• 68.7% children from moderately iodine deficient areas were diagnosed
with ADHD

The Iodine Controversy
Iodine is an essential nutrient for the production of thyroid hormones (T4 and
T3) however some feel it can make certain thyroid conditions worse, and
others feel you can’t get well without it…
• The truth is both sides are right
• If iodine is given to the autoimmune type of hypothyroid (Hashimoto’s) it
can cause a thyroid storm (a worsening of your condition)
• However, it is true that you won’t get well without it, even with
Hashimoto’s
Ok so what’s the answer?
Dr David Brownstein,MD; Iodine-Why You Need It; Why You Can’t Live Without It.
© 2011 Revelation Health LLC
The Iodine Answer
Iodine administered correctly is only one part of our program, and done
correctly offers amazing results…
1. Do the proper testing (this is part of our program)
2. If you have Hashimoto’s then we start selenium in your program first
to stop the autoimmune reaction, then we can successfully start the
iodine
3. If you do not have Hashimoto’s according to you test and exam, you
can start iodine immediately with your program

Cellular Inflammation
Cellular inflammation is the true underlying cause for 80-90% of
hypothyroid conditions…
What is it and why does it cause Hypothyroid?

transitory… the
body turns on itself

that seem to
underlie a wide
variety of diseases.

Inflammation & The Thyroid
Toxins, diet and infection can cause inflammation directly, or by
triggering a gene that sparks your immune system to attack itself and
drive chronic inflammation… Time magazine
• This is known as an autoimmune disease. In the case of hypothyroid,
we call this disease Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis
• The itis at the end of the word Thyroiditis, literally means inflammation
• The inflammation process releases something known as cytokines,
which attach to the hormone receptors on the cell membranes of
both the thyroid gland and distant cells
• The immune system sees this as a foreign protein and attacks the
cells, driving inflammation further
Inflammation causes hypothyroiditis in 3 ways…

Causes Of Inflammation
The 3 Main Causes Of Cellular Inflammation…
Toxins
Bad Fats
Sugars
© 2011 Revelation Health LLC
Bad Fats
Bad fats cause inflammation at the cell and the thyroid gland, which affects
the hormone receptors and causes autoimmune hypothyroidism (Hashimoto’s
Thyroiditis)
• Studies show a diet high in vegetable oils (turn rancid during processing)
decrease thyroid function by causing inflammation
• The Volek study and other has shown that diets high in saturated fat and
low in carbs improved weight loss by improving thyroid function
• The diet in this study had 50% of calories from good fat, low in carbs and
moderate amounts of protein (sounds like our Cellular Healing Diet)
• A study looking at “tolerance to cold” compared diets high in protein, carbs,
and fat. It was only the diet high in saturated fats, due to its effect on the
thyroid, that improved tolerance to cold

Grains And Sugar
Grains and sugar have a dramatic effect on cellular inflammation and
play a major role in the cause of thyroid conditions…
• Elevated glucose and insulin levels stimulated by the consumption
of grains and sugar interferes with the liver’s ability to convert T4 to
T3 (this is just one reason why diabetics end up with hypothyroid)
• Multiple studies show that high carb diets exacerbate thyroiditis,
and low carb diets improve it
• Grains are one of the #1 foods that people are intolerant to which
block hormone receptors and causes an autoimmune response
Stanická S et al. Insulin sensitivity and counter-regulatory hormones in hypothyroidism and during thyroid hormone replacement therapy. Clin Chem Lab Med.
2005;43(7):715-20.

More Problems With Grains
Even whole grains are to much sugar for thyroiditis, but there
are other problems with grains..…
• Most grains are genetically modified (GMO)
• GMO causes denatured proteins and sugars which drive inflammation,
and therefore, hormone resistance and autoimmune thyroiditis (ie gluten)
• Gluten is not the only denatured protein, however, is the most popular
and is known for its opiate affect on the brain
• Grains contain a sugar called amylose which is known to cause
inflammation esp. in those who are already in a state of inflammation
© 2011 Revelation Health LLC
Toxins
The #1 cause of thyroid problems…
-Toxins not only cause inflammation of the cell membrane, interfering with
the thyroid receptors and certain toxins can bind to the receptors blocking
the hormone and drive an autoimmune response
-Studies have confirmed certain toxins are the main culprits. We refer to
these as the…

water, bread and flame retardants)

“Thyroid Toxic Top 5”
1.
PCBs and Dioxins
-Found mostly in non-organic meat and diary (important to buy these
foods organic)
-Studies show these toxins induce thyroid hormone metabolism by
altering an enzyme in the liver that metabolizes the hormones
-They also directly attack the thyroid gland and the protein that carries
the hormone
2. Pesticides
-Numerous studies link pesticides to thyroid disease (too many to count)
-A resent study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology
showed women married to men who use pesticides have almost a 2 fold
increase in thyroid disease. WOW!

“Thyroid Toxic Top 5”
3. Heavy Metals
-The heavy metals with a strong link to thyroid disease are cadmium,
mercury and lead
-cadmium from cigarette smoke was one of the most studied
-mercury has been shown to bind to the hormone receptors because of
its affinity for selenium (thyroid receptors are selenium receptors)
-In studies mercury has been shown to deplete selenium which affects
the receptor and can trigger an autoimmune response
4. BPA
-Mostly from plastic and cosmetics
-studies indicate even at low doses consistent with what the average
person would be exposed to, there are links to changes in thyroid hormones

“Thyroid Toxic Top 5”
5. Halogens (AKA Goitrogens)
-Fluoride, bromine and chlorine are known as Goitrogens because they
can cause an enlargement of the thyroid gland
-These chemicals are in the same family as iodine, and therefore,
compete with iodine in the thyroid. This is one reason why people need so
much more iodine today for normal thyroid function
-Fluoride and chlorine are in the water supply in the U.S (you need good
water to fix this condition); and fluoride is unnecessarily used by dentists
-Bromine replaced iodine in bread in the 1980’s and is now in certain soft
drinks like Mountain Dew and Gatorade
-It is also found in pesticides, electronic equipment and fabrics because
of its use as a flame retardant
The bottom line is you must minimize these sources
© 2011 Revelation Health LLC
Cellular Inflammation
3 Main Problems…
1. Can’t get nutrients in needed for normal cell function
2. Can’t get toxins out which triggers genes of susceptibility driving
autoimmune thyroiditis and inflaming the cell membrane
3. Receptors on the membrane are blunted (can’t hear the hormones)
and therefore never hear the voice of the thyroid hormones TSH, T3 etc

Are You Toxic?
• The Visual Contrast Sensitivity (VCS) test is without a
doubt the best and most accurate tool the doctor has to
diagnose neurotoxic/mediated illness. (The VCS was made
popular by Dr. Kenneth Hudnell of the NIH and Dr. Shoemaker)
•
The test measures hypo-profusion of the optic nerve which
is a measure of oxygen to the nerve (neurotoxins decrease
oxygen in the nerve and therefore function)
•
The test uses contrast not visual accuity to make the
assessment
