Through its unique abstract data
types (ADT) Insight is capable to
retrieve any kind of data from the
database. Abstract data type can map
any structure a single blob field
containing a molecular structure or a
complex query into a single
column in the user interface. Several
ready-made ADTs are available
including: Molecular structures,
pictures, sub-query texts, IR spectra,
mass spectra, NMR spectra,
Microsoft OLE etc.
ADT not only displays the data, but allows the user to specify criteria using data type
specific operators like has substructure .
If unsupported data should occur, our customization team offers custom data types,
which allow organization to specify its own data types.

Many tools in the data analysis business require a complex data warehousing where
the data is extracted, transformed and then loaded from the original database into a

Using an innovative abstract data types (ADT) feature, Insight it can handle all the
data in the database from simple numbers and text to pictures and complex entities
like chemical structures and mass spectra.
Insight provides the user versatile ways to view the data. It displays the data as single
records, tables, cross-tables and charts. The cross-table view allows a rapid way to
tabulate the data by column values. The charting provides extensive list of chart types
and summary functions.
It is well integrated to the windows environment and Microsoft Office applications.
When exporting the data into word both textual and graphical data is transferred.
When exporting data to Excel all data formatting is retained. With the BayMiner®
integration extension, the data is directly transferred for an extensive probabilistic
modeling.
Insight is very fast, delivering up to thousands of lines of data per second.

Accessing the data
Insight displays the database as a table of contents.
A tree-like structure displays the available data in a
compact manner and shows the relations in a
natural way. It also allows the user to access the
data from several perspectives. For example, user
can access the invoice data either from the
customer or from the product.
When data is selected from multiple tables Insight
automatically joins the tables thus preventing the
user of getting erroneous information from the
database.
User can easily set conditions the data must satisfy. Insight can also provide
advanced data filtering methods like regular expressions when the actual database
does not support them.
Insight can handle all kinds of data from simple numbers and text to complex data
like images, chemical structures and mass spectra. Any complex data is treated as a
first class citizen : Insight allows not only loading the data from the database but
visualizes it properly and allows searching the data even when the database does not.
To maximize the flexibility Insight provides an API, which allows virtually any
format or combination of data in the database to be treated as a single column.
Architecture
Insight has a three tear architecture, which allows additional naming, formatting, subqueries etc on the data. Middle-layer can be either in the database or in the
workstation.
Meta-data definitions include:
hiding, renaming tables and columns
introducing new columns
providing type information on columns i.e. decoding lists, setting type
definition to blob-fields etc
hiding, creating and renaming joins
defining new operators on the data
providing additional information on tables and columns
Meta-data definition supports a macro-language, which allows easy customization of
the meta-layer to different environments.

Integrating Insight to Other Applications
Insight integrates with other applications in several ways: direct export, export
import, copy paste and drag and drop.
Insight can export data directly into Microsoft Word, Excel, BayMiner®, and RTF
documents.
Insight supports all common data formats including tab-delimited text, CSV, XML
and HTML.
Insight provides an API, which allows new export formats to be added. Its modular
architecture allows constructing new export modules to transfer the data virtually to
any application
Supports different level of users
User can access the database as soon as the connection to the database exists. Insight
uses the meta-data provided by the database management system. In most cases the
database is made more accessible to the end-user by creating an additional layer
between the database and Insight. This layer can hide and rename existing tables and
columns, define new derived columns and links between the tables and so on.
Different kinds of users can have their own view on the database. Middle-layer also
allows creating predefined conditions on the data.
Queries can be parameterized allowing less experienced users to execute queries just
by entering values to prompted criteria.
