CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT:
Member - Development Committee, Third Year Medical Student Pediatric Clerkship
Curriculum, 1991. The committee’s charge was to reorganize the student clerkship
rotation including the development of a core lecture series, written examination, an
observed clinical examination, and an evaluation process and materials. The Pediatric
Clerkship rotation was ranked number one in course satisfaction among third and fourth
year students at UT-Houston Medical School in the “1996 Medical School Student
Survey”. Participated in updating and revising the curriculum in 2003.
Chairman - Development Committee, Pediatric Resident Continuity Clinic Curriculum,
(1 meeting/month), 1993-1997. The committee’s charge was to develop a curriculum for
the pediatric resident’s continuity clinic rotation including the development of goals and
objectives, new methods of implementation and teaching, a written examination, a
clinical skills check list, and an evaluation process and materials for both residents and
faculty.
Member - Development Group, Resident Education Protocol for Clinical Evaluation and
Management of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, 1995. The group’s charge was
to develop an evaluation/management/educational tool to serve three purposes: 1) clinical
evaluation, 2) resident teaching, and 3) parent/teacher/patient education for children seen
in outpatient clinics and suspected to have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This
tool is currently used in multiple clinical teaching sites. Updated and revised 1998/1999.
Contributor - Tuberculosis section of the revised Pediatric Student Clerkship Manual,
1998.
Member – Development Group, Resident Education Packet and Curriculum for
Ambulatory Clinic Rotation. The group’s charge was to develop a curriculum and packet
of materials for second and third year pediatric and medicine/pediatric residents for
education purposes during their ambulatory rotation. The packet includes educational
videos, selected reading materials, assigned projects, and a web-based quiz. Project
completed 2000.

Contributor and Reviewer – Department of Pediatrics Nursery Protocol Manual, 20012003. This group’s charge was to update and review comprehensive clinical protocols
and management guidelines for the level I nursery used at Memorial Hermann Children’s
Hospital and Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital.
Leader – Development group, evidence based clinical pathways and standardized order
sets for in-patient pediatrics. The group’s charge is to develop pathways and
standardized patient orders for common pediatric in-patient diagnoses in coordination
with the MHCH Emergency Department, in-patient Hospitalist group and MHCH nursing
and support staff. The pathways are shared with the LBJ Pediatric service as well as
MHHS sister hospitals. 2004- 2007.
