A NOTE FROM THE REP
Welcome to our 2016/2017 Season!
At the start of our new season, we are pleased to announce the launch of Mpact, our
new community engagement and education initiative that leverages the resources of the
theater to maximize our collective opportunities and address community need. By utilizing
the creative assets of the company and our artists, we ask audiences and collaborators to
envision what they want the future to look like and then assist them in developing the skills,
resources and relationships to make that future a reality.
“The arts, whatever they do, whenever they call us together, invite us to look at our fellow
human being with generosity and curiosity. God knows, if we ever needed that capacity in
human history, we need it now.” - Ben Cameron, President of the Jerome Foundation
Mpact focuses on three areas:
STRENGTHENING & CELEBRATING MILWAUKEE
Celebrate positivity. Bring people together. Unite disparate groups. Change the narrative.
Our largest program in this focus area is our Community Conversations series, a citywide conversation based on the themes raised by a play in our season. This year, we will
be focusing on Disgraced, with extensive programming that engages the audience in a
discussion of the complexities of navigating identity, in partnership with the Zeidler Center
for Public Discussion and the InterFaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee.
DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
Develop an audience reflective of Milwaukee. Bring the whole city together in conversation.
As a part of our Diversity and Inclusion initiative, we will continue our partnership with
Bronzeville Arts Ensemble, providing them with artistic and administrative support. BAE
illuminates the black experience in America by developing and creating theater while also
providing artistic and educational programming opportunities. In addition, our Pathways to
Attendance program reduces barriers to participation and expands our outreach through
programs like Pay-What-You-Can performances, Out-n-About, Professionals Nights, and
access services for the visually and hearing impaired.
LITERACY & SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING
Teach the skills for Milwaukee to succeed.
Mpact includes a major expansion of our Reading Residency program, which uses the power
of theater to improve student literacy. Currently serving 840 students in 28 classrooms
through a 20-week program, we will continue to work closely with Milwaukee Public Schools
in the coming years toward a goal of serving an entire grade level. Learn more about our Mpact Initiative at www.MilwaukeeRep.com. Support for Mpact is
generously provided by Bader Philanthropies, BMO Private Bank, Einhorn Family Foundation,
The Gardner Foundation, Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Harley-Davidson Foundation,
Herzfeld Foundation, Inbusch Foundation, Ralph Evinrude Foundation, Inc., Manpower
Group, Milwaukee Public Schools, Northwestern Mutual, and WE Energies in addition to
many individual donors and supporters like yourself. To join us in supporting this vital
program, please contact Marina Krejci, Chief Development Officer at 414-290-5366 or
[email protected]
Enjoy the show!
