Kamikaze Cutesauce Cosplay Club:
at The New York International Fringe Festival
A Japanese Fusion of Movement and Horror
Directed by Brian Rott
Fringe NYC: Aug. 27th, 28th, 29th, and 30th
@ Celebration of Whimsy Theater a.k.a. The C.O.W.
Quasimondo Milwaukee Physical Theatre makes its New York debut at FringeNYC! The company will
premier its original cosplay epic, "Kamikaze Cutesauce Cosplay Club," at the New York International Fringe
Festival, Aug. 27 - 30.
Tama, Tokyo Prefecture, Kamata Junior High. Life is tough for Usagi Tsukino. Tests, Phys. Ed., peer pressure,
bullies, and our strange new teacher Viceroy Subato from Kyoto, who keeps staring at me in study hall, and
would be kind of hot if he didn't dress so funny...Oh! There’s also saving the world.
Business men become samurai, schoolgirls change into sailor scouts and dreams become reality in this
exciting theatrical mash-up inspired by traditional Japanese performing arts and the cosplay revolution.
In Cosplay, short for costume play, participants embody characters from popular culture; anime, manga, comic
books, etc. A global phenomenon, cosplay has inspired a generation to shed the shackles of their lives for brief
forays into the fantastic. This fusion of dance, puppetry, and martial arts, explores contemporary costume play
and the threads that form gender, identity, and culture.
Here’s what reviewers had to say about the production:
"Delightfully stylized cartoon violence...characteristically riveting Quasimondo choreography...in this latest
arresting production from an exciting troupe that continues to wrestle with some of the most interesting
questions being posed from any Milwaukee stage." - Mike Fischer, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
"An insightful exploration of culture, gender and power. Quasimondo once again lives up to its burgeoning
reputation as Milwaukee's premier avant-garde physical theater." - Selena Milewski, Shepherd Express
"A wonderfully crafted work of total theater." - Jeff Grygny, Milwaukee Theatre Examiner

Quasimondo Milwaukee Physical Theatre is an ensemble of multidisciplinary artists committed to creating
original work through inter-arts collaboration. We explore forms of performance and fuse modes of expression,
challenging theatrical paradigms to create innovative work that is aural, kinetic, visual, and visceral. We strive
through research, training, and performance to expose ourselves and audiences to international theatrical
traditions and perspectives. It is our mission to make theatre that celebrates the diversity of the world we live in,
that communicates in a common sensory language; that inspires audiences and enriches the community.
We invite you to share with us in our “kind of world”
