1. Alkali metals- Any of the highly reactive elements lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, cesium, and francium, occupying Group IA (1) of the periodic table. Sentence: The Alkali Metals are very reactive. 2. Alkaline Earth metals- The alkaline earth elements are metallic elements found in the second group of the periodic table. Sentence: The Alkaline Earth metals are reactive, also, but not as reactive as the Alkali metals. 3. Halogen- The halogens or halogen elements are a group in the periodic table consisting of five chemically related elements, fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), iodine (I), and astatine (At). seventeen. Sentence: Halogens are found in group 4. Inner transition elements- An inner transition metal is one of a group of chemical elements on the periodic table. Sentence: Inner transition metals are in the middle of the periodic table. 5. Lanthanide series- When you look at the periodic table, you will see two rows that kind of sit off to the bottom. Sentence: The Lanthanide series is the second row from the bottom. Sentence: The Lanthanide series is the second row from the bottom. 6. Actinide series- The actinide series is much different. They are all radioactive and some are not found in nature. Sentence: The Actinide series is very reactive. 7. Noble Gas- The noble gases make a group of chemical elements with similar properties: under standard conditions, they are all odorless, colorless, monatomic gases with very low chemical reactivity. Sentence: the Nobel Gases are the least reactive. 8. Transition Elements-The 38 elements in groups 3 through 12 of the periodic table are called "transition metals". As with all metals, the transition elements are both ductile and malleable, and conduct electricity and heat. Sentence: Groups 3-12 are called transition elements. 9. Representative elements-The metallic elements which are found on the left side and in the center of the periodic table are known as representative elements. Sentence: Metallic elements are very pretty and are representative elements. 10. Chemical family-In chemistry, a group (also known as a family) is a vertical column in the periodic table of the chemical elements. Sentence: A group of elements are a chemical family. 11. Atomic number- The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom, which determines the chemical properties of an element and its place in the periodic table. eleven. 12. Periodic table- A table of the chemical elements arranged in order of atomic number, usually in rows, so that elements with similar atomic structure. Sentence: There are a lot of elements on the periodic table. 13. Protons- The proton is a subatomic particle with the symbol p or p+ and a positive electric charge of 1 elementary charge. symbolizes protons. Sentence: the letter P 14. Neutrons- The neutron is a subatomic hadron particle which has the symbol n or n0, no net electric charge and a mass slightly larger than that of a proton. Sentence: Neutrons do not have a charge. 15. Electrons- The electron (symbol: e−) is a subatomic particle with a negative elementary electric charge. Sentence: Electrons have a negative charge. 16. Subatomic particles- In physics or chemistry, subatomic particles are the particles smaller than an atom. Sentence: subatomic particles are really small. 17. Nucleus- In cell biology, the nucleus (pl. nuclei; from Latin nucleus or nucleus, meaning kernel) is a membrane-enclosed organelle found in Sentence: The nucleus only in eukaryotic cells. eukaryotic cells. 18. Electric charge- one of the basic properties of the elementary particles of matter giving rise to all electric and magnetic forces and interactions. Sentence: Electric charges are the best! 19. Valence electrons- In chemistry, a valence electron is an electron that is associated with an atom, and that can participate in the formation of a chemical bond; in a single covalent bond, both atoms in the bond contribute one valence electron in order to form a shared pair. Sentence: Valence electrons are the electrons that can be lost easily. They are on the outer ring. 20. Atomic mass- The atomic mass (ma) is the mass of a specific isotope, most often expressed in unified atomic mass units. Sentence: Hydrogen’s atomic mass is 1.00795. 21. Groups- a column in the periodic table of chemical elements. Sentence: Groups go across the periodic table. 22. Periods- Columns in the periodic table. Sentence: Periods run up and down in the periodic table. 23. Metals- A metal is an element, compound, or alloy that is a good conductor of both electricity and heat. Sentence: Metals can be hard or soft. 24. Non-metals- Nonmetal, or non-metal, is a term used in chemistry when classifying the chemical elements. Sentence: Non-metals are not metals. 25. Metalloids- A metalloid is a chemical element with properties that are in-between or a mixture of those of metals and nonmetals, and which is considered to be difficult to classify unambiguously as either a metal or a nonmetal. Sentence: Mixtures of metals and non-metals are metalloids. 26. Chemical symbol- A chemical symbol is a 1-, 2-, or 3-letter internationally agreed code for a chemical element, usually derived from the name of the element, often in Latin. Sentence: Sodium’s chemical symbol is Na.
