General presentation CP 253 SAH is a range of MV capacitor banks designed to be used in electrical networks up to 12kV. The capacitor bank is made of unpainted aluminium or galvanised steel frame and panels, which is equipped with PROPIVAR capacitors, SF6 contactor, HRC fuses and detuning reactors. The bank is arranged in delta connection and the HRC fuses insure the protection against capacitor internal fault. Several capacitor stages are controlled by a power factor relay to make an automatic power factor correction system. 2. Standards The CP 253 SAH equipment is designed, manufactured, and tested according to the relevant IEC recommendations. - High voltage capacitors IEC 60871-1 & 2, BS 1650, VDE 0560, C22-2 N° 190-M1985, - High voltage contactors IEC 420, IEC 470 - Reactors IEC 289 - HRC Fuses IEC 282.1, IEC 787 - Relays IEC 255 3. Technical characteristics CP 253 SAH capacitor bank is made of unpainted aluminium or galvanised steel frames and panels. It is designed for the following installation conditions: - indoor installation, - altitude less than 1000m, - average daily ambient temperature of between -25°C and +35°C, and a maximum of 40°C. The protection degree of the enclosure is IP 23. Available options for the enclosure: - Door with lock for indoor type enclosure, - Outdoor type enclosure, - Door with lock for outdoor type enclosure, (to be used with outdoor type cubicle option). According to network rated voltage, the insulation level of equipment is as follows: Rated voltage (Vdim) (V) Insulation level (kV) 4600 7100 12000 7,2 7,2 12 Power freq. voltage withstand (kVrms) 20 20 28 Impulse voltage withstand (kV peak) 60 60 75 The tolerance on the rated power of the capacitor bank is : 0/+10%, Capacitance variation according to temperature is : -3,5.10-4/°C. 4.1 Acceptable overcurrent and overvoltage CP 253 SAH capacitor banks are designed for: - 1,10 x Un overvoltage - 12 hours per day, - 1,15 x Un power frequency overvoltage - 30 minutes per day, - Permanent overcurrent : 1,3 x In. 4.2 Design voltage, design power and marking According to IEC 60871 recommendations, capacitor units or capacitor banks nameplates shall indicate the maximum power and voltage for which it is designed (Qdim & Vdim). Our capacitor units and capacitor banks have nameplates showing these design power and design voltage (Qdim and Vdim). Operating values can be equal or lower than these values (Qn and Vn). If the required voltage does not appear in the tables, it is possible to make a calculation using the formulae : Qn = (Vn/Vdim)² x Qdim 4.3 Composition Each stage of CP 253 SAH capacitor bank includes the following components: 4.3.1 Basic components : - Unpainted aluminium or galvanised steel cubicle, IP23 for indoor installation, PROPIVAR capacitor units, (1, 2 or 3 units per stage, depending on the rated power of the bank) - One contactor, - One three-phase detuning reactor, - Three HRC fuses. 4.3.2 The following items are available as options : - Set of two quick discharge coils, - Control and protection box. 4.4 General layout and single line diagram 4.5 Enclosures The capacitor banks enclosure is made of unpainted aluminium or galvanised steel frames and panels. The stages are designed to include up to 3 capacitor units in delta connection. There are five types of enclosures, for 1 up to 5 capacitor stages : CP253-1 SAH, CP253-2 SAH, CP253-3 SAH, CP253-4 SAH and CP253-5 SAH. 4.6 Capacitor units The PROPIVAR capacitor units used in CP253 SAH banks have the following characteristics: Last update : 2017-05-06 -5- Specification for Tender 582760314 - All film technology, - Filled with biodegradable dielectric fluid, - Three-phase, delta connected, - Fitted with three epoxy resin bushings, - Fitted with internal discharge resistors (75V / 10min). According to IEC 60871 standard requirements, capacitor units include internal discharge resistors so that the residual voltage is less than 75V within 10 minutes after disconnection. 4.7 Contactor There are two types of ROLLARC contactors, notably: - the R400 with magnetic holding, and - the R400D which is mechanically latched. In CP253 SAH banks we use the R400 type. The high breaking capacity of the Rollarc contactor (10kA) provides perfect co-ordination when used in conjunction with HV fuses (with ratings of up to 250A). 4.8 Reactors The reactors used are three-phase, dry type, with iron core and natural air cooling. The rated current is equal or higher than 1,43 times the capacitor bank nominal current. The inductance value is calculated so that the L-C tuning frequency is 4,3 times the fundamental frequency value (215Hz for 50Hz network, or 258Hz for 60Hz network). This "detuning" frequency avoid resonance risk and attenuates effect of 5th and higher harmonics. In addition, they attenuate tremendously the peak inrush current due to capacitor bank switching (peak value remains much lower than 100 times the nominal current of the capacitor bank, as per IEC recommendation). 4.9 Connections The connection supports are made of porcelain or epoxy resin. Connections are of bare copper bars. 4.10 Low voltage wiring Low voltage wiring is insulated with black PVC, 1000 V grade, with the following cross-sections: - 2,5 sq. mm for currents circuits, - 1,5 sq. mm for voltage circuits. Each extremity of wire is marked using the independent marking system. 4.11 Quick discharge coils (optional) Quick discharge coils allow a very fast discharge time (less than 10 s). Caution : In any case (without or with quick discharge coils), a time delay relay must be used to avoid connection of the capacitor bank within less than 5 minutes after its disconnection, either due to automatic control, protection tripping, voltage outage, … 4.12 Control and protection box (optional) There are five models of control and protection boxes available, for 1 up to 5 capacitor stages. These control and protection boxes are designed for indoor use only. They include the following devices : - One Varlogic power factor controller, Last update : 2017-05-06 -6- Specification for Tender 582760314 - Signaling lamps : > Voltage "on", > For each stage : Stage "On", Stage "Off", Melted fuse. - Optional : a local manual control switch. This switch has three positions : > "Auto" : the stages are controlled by the power factor relay, > "Manu" : the stages are manually controlled by a 2 position switch, (1 per stage), > "0" : the stages remain off all the time (no automatic nor manual operation permitted). 4.13 Auxiliary voltages Here are the voltages which can be used for CP 253 SAH capacitor banks: Control and signalling circuits (contactor coils, lamps, auxiliary relays): - ac : 110Vac, 220/230Vac. - dc : 48Vdc, 110Vdc, 125Vdc, 220Vdc. Power factor controller reference voltage : - ac : 110Vac, 220/240Vac, 380/415Vac. 5. Operating conditions 5.1 Internal fault protection PROPIVAR capacitors have to be protected according to Rectiphase instructions. Only HRC fuses types and ratings recommended by Rectiphase can be used for capacitor protection. 5.2 Additional protections To provide a suitable protection level for the equipment, the capacitor bank feeder must include the following additional protection devices : - Short-circuit protection : recommended setting values : 3 x In / 0,1s, - Overload protection : recommended setting values : 1,4 x In / 10s, Important note: The feeder circuit-breaker shall be suitable for capacitor current switching. Last update : 2017-05-06 -7- Specification for Tender 582760314 6. Factory tests Each CP 253 SAH capacitor bank manufactured by Rectiphase must pass routine testing before delivery. The factory routine tests are performed according to IEC relevant recommendations and include the following: 6.1 For PROPIVAR capacitor units : - capacitance measurement, loss angle measurement (tg ), sealing test, internal discharge resistor value checking, voltage test between terminals, voltage test between terminals and container. 6.2 For CP253 SAH capacitor banks - phase to phase capacitance measurement, insulation measurement, conformity checking, functional test (off-load operation), 7.
