Smo Kinhot is struck by lightening while carrying an umbrella in a
storm. When EMS arrives, they must defibrillate her heart.
Spa Soid has had 45 Dr. Peppers today. His classmates and his
teacher notice his excessive talking due to the overdose of caffeine.
His AV node takes over as the pacemaker causing extrasystole
(premature contractions).
Mr. Upright (an elderly patient!!) is brought to your clinic because he
fatigues extremely easily. A heart murmur associated with the
bicuspid valve is heard.
Coach Leach (due to his extremely fit condition!!!) has a normal
heart rate of 30 beats/min.
Mrs. K contracted a staph infection while pregnant. Upon birth, her
baby was slightly cyanotic. This congenital defect was corrected
with surgery to close the structure between the aorta and
pulmonary trunk.
Elizabeth is brought to your clinic with a persistant sore throat. The
culture is positive for strep. Later that week, she faints during band
practice and it admitted to the hospital in a cyanotic state with a
weak & irregular heart rate.
Ima Hog is admitted to the hospital after complaining of angina
pectoris. You discover that her diet consists of large amounts of
cholesterol and schedule a balloon angioplasty.
Coach Puffer, known to have emphysema and related clotting
disorders , is admitted with difficulty breathing.

Mr. IHur Talot is brought to the emergency room complaining of
angina pectoris. Upon listening to his heart, you discover that the
pericardial cavity is fluid filled and his heart has to work very hard to
pump his blood.
Allison, who has been bedridden for months, notices her feet,
ankles, and fingers becoming puffy and swollen.
A baby born in your hospital is diagnosed with a serious congenital
heart defect in which the pulmonary SL valve is stenosed, there is
an incomplete septum so the aorta arises from both ventricles, and
an enlarged right ventricle. The baby will not survive if you don’t
operate soon.
Mr. Lazilot, a huge football fan, has spent several months on the
couch watching all the playoff games, etc. All this inactivity has led
to the formation of a thrombus. If he doesn’t get this taken care of,
it could become an embolism causing ischemia in the heart tissue.
When the myocardium is deprived of oxygen, a crushing chest pain
results that should never be ignored.
When a patient is in severe pain, their resting heart rate may
increase to 100 beats per minute or more and may progress to
fibrillation.
A heart attack may weaken the left side of the heart causing fluid to
backup into the lungs.
Mrs. Valentine was hospitalized due to several repeated episodes
of endocarditis. While listening to her heart, you detect a slight
heart murmur and suspect that her tricuspid valve flaps have
stiffened and she may eventually need surgery to replace it.
Mr. Car Dio has had multiple heart attacks that have severely
weakened his heart so that his circulation is no longer adequate to
meet the needs of his body. You place him on the transplant list
due to his decompensated heart.
Mr. Simmons was so shocked by how nicely Mrs. Kalinowski was
treating him that he became weakened by an unusually strong, fast,
& irregular heartbeat.
While plugging in a hot plate for a chemistry lab, Mr. Thomas
inadvertently stuck his finger in the electrical outlet. The surge of
electricity damaged his AV node causing his ventricles to beat at a
much slower rate. While he survived the ordeal, he is a much
calmer person now!
Mr. Wohlfarth went for a checkup due to his advanced age. The
doctor said he was relatively healthy but had an abnormal sound
associated with his heart valves.
